Re: What do you think of FM's Hawker Hurricane?

Nice looking! Are the wing guns recessed or painted on?

Hi Elmer,
They're recessed. Here's the story on the unusual markings.

Re: What do you think of FM's Hawker Hurricane?

I have 9 Armour Collection Hurricanes with 7 of them being initial CDC releases. These are mostly decaled, but I have had no problem with peeling or fading and I think the detailing on these models is pretty darned good. The other 2 are later released FM versions that are pad printed==in fact I just received the 2006 Mk.IId a couple of weeks ago and I would give it a good rating ( good camo paint and good cannon detail; not so sure about the Robins Egg green paint on the undersides versus Azure Blue more commonly seen on desert service RAF aircraft). I'm not a Hurri expert, but judging from photo's and drawings, I think that AC's mold is an accurate rendition of the real thing--one of my favorite castings by them. The fuselage stringer detail on this 1/48 scale really stands out, and the CDC versions have really outstanding paint. Among my favorites-- the aforementioned Sea Hurri; the Mk.IIc desert version; the black Mk.II night fighter; and Bader's Mk.I. For the future, I would like to see a Mk.IIc in CBI colors with SEA markings, a Malta based Mk.II, and one of the unusually painted Sea Hurricanes in overall white with upper fuselage FAA Sea grey/Green camo. ----Happy collecting, markko

Yeah, I read about it... interesting story. Thanks for posting. I can't locate the operation torch model. Are the graphics pad printed or decals?

Thanks for the info markko and welcome to the forum! From your post, I am not quite clear which two are pad printed. I am interested in B11E394 -- North Africa 1943 (a Mk. II I believe), and B11B627 -- desert markings with the mottled cool looking nose (also a Mk. II I believe). I hope the one with the mottled camo'd nose is pad printed! Is there a Battle of Britain model that is pad printed?

Mine look like they're pad printed. Maybe Markko could verify this on his.

Elmer---- Sorry for the confusion over the graphics. The truth is most of the Hurricanes available from dealers now are pad printed because they have been through at least one production run since FM started pad printing. Several of the original hurri releases are no longer available from FM's wharehouse, but quite a few of the higher volume dealers still have some in stock; you'll just have to do a little shopping. I personally have no problem in getting an earlier decaled version. As long as you keep it out of strong sunlight and in a relatively moderate temperature environment, you shouldn't have a problem. Most reputable dealers will gladly exchange a model if it has flaws on delivery. As for E394;it is the 2007 (not 2006 as I mistakenly listed) release that I got about 2 weeks ago. It is a Mk.IId "tank buster" in RAF desert livery, and yes, it is pad printed. B627, if I remember correctly (no guarantees), was in the second year of release for CDC/FM hurricanes and was initially decaled, but subsequently pad printed in later production runs. I have both of these hurricanes, and I'm sure you'll be pleased with both. Happy collecting, markko

My Sea Hurricane was purchased about 1 week after they were initially released and is decaled. I would love for FM to release another Sea Hurricane as well as some Seafires that were based on the Spitfire Mk.V. ----Happy collecting, markko
