F4 Phantom Robin Olds

Last edited by STARMAN 352ND : 04-01-2007 at 07:08 PM.
I got my Franklin Mint F4 Phantom of Robin Olds and i have to say i'm very happy with it.
All pad print and no decals on this one as well...
This one has the more correct looking fuel tanks on the wings but still is off a little could of been more sharper looking in the front part of the tank at least it is better the the big tanks they used before and it even comes with a extra large belly tank if you want to add it on.
If you don't have this in your collection better get one now before there all gone...This one is a must have.

Re: F4 Phantom Robin Olds

Looks great. I guess I ordered mine a couple weeks too early because I got the large wing drop tanks.

Re: F4 Phantom Robin Olds

I have this model as well, and love it. I also get to see the real deal at the museum.

Re: F4 Phantom Robin Olds

Thanks again for the pics, JP! I'm looking forward to mine when it ever arrives...

Do you know anyone who makes a 1/48th diecast Mig-21 in NVAF scheme???

I wish i did ....The only ones i have seen in a diecast are the Migs 15,17 and 29 and thats about it.
There are a few plastic model kits of a Mig-21...

Re: F4 Phantom Robin Olds

I have the original Olds F-4 from CDC, bought in 1998 (or maybe early 99). No tanks on that version.

The new wing tanks are much better than the old fat ones, but the shape is not right (not oval enough in longitudinal cross-section, not pointy enough, they also lack the side reinforcement "ribs" of the real things) and they are painted incorrectly as well (should be white on the undersides, cammo on top). The centerline looks OK in shape but should be white (completely) as well.

Still, a lot of improvement, if you want tanks on the jet (which is indeed much more representative of the usual operational configuration).

Re: F4 Phantom Robin Olds

What does the serial number read? I can't quite make it out.

Shouldn't the 40 refer to the fiscal year in which the aircraft was ordered? If so, that can't be right. FVD (or serial number experts out there) help out here.
