Re: B11E198 Heinkel He-111 KG.53

I buy at Mark Twain Hobby Center in St.Charles. They have a good sale every now and then during the summer. They're usually pretty competitive with the popular web sites prices during the sales. On some items they can't meet the internet prices, so I still order every once in a while off the internet. I like buying at their shop because they let me take the model out of the box and inspect it before I buy it.

I'll have to check out Mark Twain.

DIM usually has a good selection and will order anything you want if he doesn't have it, but he goes with MSRP, so usually no deals to be had. However, there will be a decent sale every now and then.

Re: B11E198 Heinkel He-111 KG.53

TopHat....I have seen the FM one and it's really nice "New Tooling" 1:48 scale wingspan is 17" and length is 13.5".
But if you like the 1:48 scale that FM one is nice and heavy plus that's a rare bird to get one with German markings like that.
The one Mark just posted is causing me to want that one even more and all i have is 1:72nd bombers so far.
Well i do have a B-26 Flak Bait that would look good next too it.

Starman:

So, I take it that the hash-marks on the wings are correct? Are those the equivalent of the allied invasion stripes?

Re: B11E198 Heinkel He-111 KG.53

My take on the hash marks: close your eyes and think of the Queen.

The hash marks were used in the BoB for a very short period in the fall of 1940. The system was complex and is largely undocumented by surviving Luftwaffe accounts. Photo evidence indicates the marks were used for formation marshalling. The colors appear to include white and pink, and even others (surviving English recovery team accounts support this). The bars often appeared on the right wing (if viewing the Heinkel from behind) and fin. However I have seen the marks on both wings as per the very nice Franklin Mint model. The hash marks were sometimes crudely applied via spray stencils, thus in some pictures, a large amount of overspray is evident on the wings.

There are great articles written on this subject, but I am about three years removed from reading them and am rusty.

Hence, I'll stick with my Queen statement ^^^^^

Would you elaborate? I don't quite understand what you mean.

Now that just pisses me off. I'd rather have no marking or an "x" rather than that nonsense.

Your B11E198 He-111 came with that nonsense on the tail? Really? That's not what we see in Mark's great pictures and at some other on-line vendors that have pictures of the real thing posted...
