Flak Bait question

Does anybody know if FM's Flak Bait B-26 Marauder is accurately depicting the port wing national insignia? The photos of the model seem to indicate that the bars are not painted white within the blue surround. Is this how it was painted on the actual aircraft?

Cool Re: Flak Bait question

Per mustangdriver, it is. Here's the link when that question was brought up before. I've got Flak Bait and think it looks super cool.

Re: Flak Bait question

Thanks for the link aeroeng - but i'd still like to see a photo of the real plane to compare. It seems that the opinion is that the insignia is correct according to the previous thread.

Re: Flak Bait question

They were changing the insignia when to the new stars and bars in between missions. That is why it looked like that.

Did they run out of paint or time? Is this a theory or a fact?

Re: Flak Bait question

It was common to see aircraft flying in a paintjobs that were not always uniform. When they changed from O.D. over gray to N.M. it did not happen all at once. Same with changes to the insignias.

Re: Flak Bait question

So...is there any photographic evidence to back this up? It sounds good but...

Re: Flak Bait question

I have not seen any pics, but the real wings are in storage at the NASM, can anyone get access to see them.

Re: Flak Bait question

Anyone know if FM's is more or less accurate than FOV's B-26? I know they are different scales but I want just one in my collection that is the best available.

Re: Flak Bait question

Franklin Mint got it right. Here is a pic of the wings in storage. The wings have the stars and bars completed, but you can see that they were done in the field and not a factory stencil.
