Miss America P-51D one sweet deal

I went to another estate sale this afternoon and picked up this P-51D Miss America Mustang and a great price...But i almost blew it....
Here is how it all begin......
I would never had got this because i don't like FM P-51D that much... But when my wife found the box sitting
in the doll area of the estate sale while she was looking for Marie Osmond dolls & Bed sets she picked up this box along with 2 dolls and headed over to where i was in the tool area
and ask if i wanted the plane... i just glance at the box for a second from about 4ft from where is was standing and said "No because their P-51's are not very good planes landing gears doors are terrible"
She said "are you sure" i said "yes i'm sure"......So she put it down and we just went about looking at other items
Then the man that was having the sale ask if this was ours and my wife said "no i thought my husband would want it but he says they were not very good and I'm sorry i should of put it back to the doll area" that's when i told her i would put it back for her so i took the box from the man...and as i was walking towards the doll area i just looked at the UPC tag on it and saw "Miss America" ....Then what did i do ...Looked around for more planes and zip nothing there..No price tag on the box...So i headed back towards my wife and she looks at me funny and said "What you got there ?" ....I smiled and said well i felt bad about what i said they weren't any good so i'll buy just because you were thinking of me
She looked at me and said "whatever"...So i was paying for her dolls and asked how much for the airplane the man said $10.00 ...... Thinking i did it again....Struck Gold...and here are the pictures.....I would of never got this Mustang if all these things had not fallen into place today either.....That's called Luck..
After we got in the car i told my wife thanks for finding the airplane in there and i was just stupid to over look the box..Lesson learned..I'll never do that again.
Now i know ....Pappy is going to go crazy on this ....But i'm telling you guys try the Estate sales once in a while you just never know what you could find.

Hey JP -- come on down here to SacTown one of these weekends and go with me to hit up the garage sales, you've got "crazy deal" mojo going...

Course, being a FM P-51D I'd say you paid just about the proper amount

I just bought that one for $150.00. Now I know what you are all going to say, but it is a very special airplane for me.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

I hear that!!! JP needs to come to my neck of the woods.....

On a side note, that FM Mustang is the one to have.. I hear some folks have paid top dollar for that particular plane because it is so rare.. I know Mhackl has been looking for one for some time now..

I know - you guys are gonna "ding" me for saying this - but while this is a nice-looking model (looking just from the standpoint of the photos - I've never seen one of these up close), but this is where Armour really makes me mad ( ) - this "one basic model fits all" thing... - I used to do maintenance on the real "Miss America" years ago when Howie Keefe owned her; she had clipped wings with hornier tips and reduced-span ailerons. Why Armour can't ever get any of this right is beyond me ( ) - it's obvious they're not interested in accuracy at all; which is essentially the reason I never got into their WWII stuff to begin with. Yes, folks, I realize that these are "assembly-line" models... - but there's no reason they can't get the "accuracy thing" down any better than this! I also understand that the majority of people don't care so long as they get "something close"... - but this is where plastic (albiet the labor to build 'em...) beats diecast everytime - and it really makes me mad; simply because it doesn't have to be this way. I really believe that beyond the issue of "money & politics", Armour seems to think that these are just "glorified toys" rather than true-to-life scale models. I can live with the large gaps in seams, etc; but some of these extremely obvious screw-ups in basic details are simply reprehensible on Armour's part, in my opinion... - JY, Tacoma, WA

The one Armour F-4 ("gun-nose" "E/J" model) Phantom I'm still lacking is the Japanese JASDF one (limited Ed.). IF any of you have one that's "N.I.B.", and you'd like to part with it, PLEASE let me know!! Many thanks, JY, Tacoma, WA.

Re: Miss America P-51D one sweet deal

As a big Unlimited air racer fan, several years ago I ordered this diecast Miss America, (not knowing anything about Armour or its P-51s at the time) as well as one of those wooden jobbies. They were advertised in a magazine, back in the days when that venue was the only exposure I had to this kind of stuff..To make a long story short, the Armour Miss A got slightly damaged when I moved and I wasn't upset enough about it to bother fixing it, and consequently into the landfill it went.. ......The wooden one still remains and currently serves duty holding down a stereo speaker in my basement..
