Re: Miss America P-51D one sweet deal

This P-51 Mustang was one of my favorites as a kid and i loved the paint scheme that Howie Keefe had on it.
Now this plane that Armour made looks to be the 1979 season..Which by the way was not a good season for that team...Here is a old
B/W photo i have on it and at this time the pilot was i think Charlie Beck who got the 2nd place silver that year at Reno.

George Preddy was......Just the greatest fighter pilot who ever squinted through a gunsight.
He was a complete fighter pilot.......Colonel John C. Meyer Deputy Commander of the 352nd.

Re: Miss America P-51D one sweet deal

IIRC, Revell released this particular model scheme in 1/32nd back in the 70's? I remember building one that they put out around the same time
frame, and that was Bob Hoover's Yellow "Rockwell International" P-51D Mustang also in 1/32nd. Anyway, nice b/w photo of Miss America, JP.

Re: Miss America P-51D one sweet deal

Back in the late 1970s there was a sticker album issued in the of famous aircraft which I spent far too much pocket money on. For some reason Miss America was used to illustrate the P-51, I was struck then by the fact she was non-standard and to the mind of a 12 year old 'wrong' where were the 8th AF Mustangs? But now I appreciate her individuality more and would quite like one in 1/72 for old times sake. BTW how on earth did FM miss the tinted canopy?

Nice catch, Maple 01! Yeah, the canopy is suppose to be dark tinted.

Are you kidding?...It would have cost more money (probably in the tens of zillions) to produce a tinted canopy just for this particular Mustang.
Gee whiz, anyway.......
