Showtime 100

Just got this Phantom, and I really like it overall -- from a decal perspective, it's one of the best FM's I've seen. Everything appears to be pad-printed, and its got scads of small decals ( which FM seems to ignore when it comes to its WWII bombers... )

The only thing that seems odd to me is the gloss black nose? Shouldn't this be a flat black, to match the anti-glare paneling around the windscreen for example.

I'll take pics when I can, but thought I'd troll for info from veteran owners of this bird.

(This may be my new favorite FM model, or at least darn close... the wild weasal Phantom is tough to beat..)

Re: Showtime 100

Based on the photos of the actual Showtime 100 that I've seen, there is a contrast with the radome being a glossy (or perhaps semi-glossy) black.

Sounds about right.

Seeing as she's often quoted as being THE most famous F.4 of all-time, I'm

suprised than certain rich individuals or organisations, HAVEN'T yet attempted

to raise the wreck of "Showtime 100" - seeing as how she supposedly resides

in (fairly) shallow water, off the coast, in the Gulf of Tonkin (even if there

probably ain't a lot left of her).

I knew you like it Pappy ....To date it's one of the best F4 Phantom's FM has made and it's one of my favorites
All pad printed and no decals just the way i like it.
If you go back on another thread i have a picture of the Showtime 112 and it had a gloss looking nose.

Re: Showtime 100

Cool, thanks for the info gents -- good to know FM got it at least mostly right, which ain't always the case, which is why I'm a bit paranoid. I'm thinking they should have used a semi-gloss instead, looking at star's pic, but I'm not going to get that picky about it... it really is a superb effort for FM.

(And the price was certainly right too, $40... )

Re: Showtime 100

It should be glossy as that is the type of paint that was used to try and keep the saltwater out of the nose cone that housed the radar unit. Most radomes are glossy. The USAF Pahntoms were semi glossy, and some were even flat, I was told that it had something to do with the navy's concern about saltwater.

Yeah, that would be a very safe assumption.

Re: Showtime 100

Onmark has a seet deal on this right now Pappy! Not far from what you got at JP.

Just ordered one. The Diecastace photos really sold me. Thanks! Loved the Dogfights with this story.

I went to a place about 45 minutes away today where they had a bunch of the FM jets out on display and was really impressed with them. The Tomacats, Phantoms, and Eagles are HUGE! Especailly the Tomcats. I was blown away at how impressed I was at the sheer size.

It really matters!

The store price was over $100 too. I walked out, drove home and began the search. Onmark came through.

Cool! Still one of my favorite FM models, and favorite diecast models for that matter... The A-10s are nice, too Though I did sell mine off before the move as the boxes just took up too much storage room Can't imagine storing the boxes for the Forts!

Don't even try and imagine it PappyB as it isn't possible (unless you've got a mansion) - those boxes are BIG!
