Re: Your FM/A collections - Which one's you own?

The MiG-15 and 17 are nice, but with one major flaw. The main landing gear is way to long, giving the aircraft an awkward nose-down stance. The actual MiGs sat nose slightly up, giving them their signature appearance.

Indeed, you are quite correct. It's not too bad on the MiG-15, but very noticeable on the 17. One of those patented FM/Armour flaws we could have done without. I may end up trying to correct that myself somehow, but it won't be easy. Otherwise these models are fine.

I corrected a similar problem (but nose up, this time, which had to be corrected by cutting down some of the nose gear height) with my GainCorp F-22. A real F-22 sits level with the ground.

We already addressed this as the "Peeing Cocker Spaniel Syndrome"

Never did get to fight the real thing in air-to-air combat training when I flew F-16s, though...

I'm not trying to put you on the spot, but I would really love to hear/read some of your more interesting "yank and bank" stories, FVD. It's not very often we get to hear perspectives from a ex-fighter pilot like yourself. Please do share some of your experiences with us, won't you? Thanks.

OK, but I'd want to keep that kind of discussion in "The Pub," I guess. I like to keep the threads on topic as much as possible, although I'm afraid I already deviated from that a couple of times already to answer people's questions.

As I mentioned in another thread somewhere, it's pretty rare that military pilots (current or ex-) also happen to be true aviation buffs/collectors. It might seem surprising, but it is so. So I can understand why members of this forum might want to hear flying "war stories." That's fine. I've already weighed in a couple of real aircraft topics in "The Pub," and will continue to do so when appropriate.

Re: Your FM/A collections - Which one's you own?

Hi "Formerviperdriver",

I'm a former control technician and used to control planes from Ramstein, Lahr, Bitburg, and some French occasionally. Also some Block 32 Vipes from the Dutch. That was way in the old days when there was an East and West. I love "war stories", but especially about the planes and I have in my collection. I've collected several signatures from pilots who flew the real thing, like Mr. Scot Crosfield, three Flying Tigers, and a Tuskegee Airman. I heard stories from them all which makes my collection more meaningful to me. Thanks for the good words. Oranges Sweet!
