I had bought 8 FM models...

but have only kept 4 of them :
CAC Sabre MK32
Me 262/BK50
F6F5 FN
Mosquito FBVI FAF

I got rid of :

A6M2-N (too much DIY)
Me 109G Swiss AF (suffers from comparison with C1 BF109E for ex)
P51D Swiss AF (simply bad !)
F4U7 FN (among FM best models...had it not had the WRONG cowling !)

Re: Your FM/A collections - Which one's you own?

First, all my FM/Armour planes have very nice paint work and many have amazing prop detail. They make the collection interesting especially to guests.
..

Nice collection there, parsig9. Hang onto that version of the SBD. I think it's the best.

Re: Your FM/A collections - Which one's you own?

Ara, love the way you've camo' d that nasty C.47 fuselage join line with your hand - (or - don't tell me kabelace - I've got ANOTHER friday afternoon special..........).

Cool collection B.T.W.

Hey Hornchurch,

Do you know how hard it was to hold that hunk of metal still with one hand while taking the photo with the other?

Yes, the C-47 has some ugly join lines, esp. under the cockpit. Alas, she's still loved....

Re: Your FM/A collections - Which one's you own?

My FM/As are as follows,

BF-109G Hartmann Tulip Gray and Swiss AF, both Decent
SBD, Leppla-Liska, VB-3 Midway, and Glidden Ace of Spades, All great
F4U-5N Bordelon, the best and most accurate FM/A Corsair
F6F-3 Hellcat Vraciu. This is an original Armour and is the best 1/48 Hellcat
F-86 Mcconnell Beautious Butch, IMHO the best FM F-86
F-4 Phantom Showtime 100, IMHO their best Phantom

I had their Daisy June USMC Corsair, their B-25 Hells Bells, and one of their USAAF C-47s as well, but sold them off. Daisy June was a bit off, the canopy is wrong and so is the nose profile. The B-25 was decent but had a loose wing and the bent over stance, and the C-47 had feathered looking props.

The Models I still own are all decent representations of the planes they depict. FM Armour does make some decent models. The problem is that they are overpriced at list price. All the ones I got with the exception of the Vraciu Hellcat were purchased on Ebay at much less than the list price. Space considerations will probably prevent me from acquiring more, and I look forward to adding more C1s and Hobbymaster 1/48s to my collection in that scale.

However, I have numerous 1/100 Armours and plan to add to that collection when I can. I like the scale, the packaging, and the fact that they depict numerous planes and liveries that nobody else ever does. The centerpiece of that collection is my USMC Air Force, which consists of their Boyington F4U-1, Korean War Death Rattlers F4U-4, USMC Blue Skyraider, the silver VMF-451 FJ-3, their VMFA-531 F-4N, the Blacksheep A-4M, their VMFA-232 F/A-18, their Desert Storm Camo AH-1W, and their low vis gray VMA-542 AV-8B. I also have Fabbri's F-8E which is a nice addition that gives me most of the fighters and attack planes flown by the Corps since WW-2. I also have the Topgun Skyhawk, F-5E, VF-43 Kfir, Topgun Gray F-14 with helmet, Topgun F-16N and the Desert "Flashman" camo F/A-18 as an adversary collection. In addition, I have quite a few WW2 Airplanes in that scale. What I like most of them is the fact that I can have so many stashed away in a small space, in their original packaging and yet be able to see the models with minimum box work. Looking at Ebay pricing, it is ironic to see that some 1/100 Armours are actually selling for more than their FM/A 1/48 counterparts.

On a personal note, my mother just got married to Colonel Douglas Feganbush, who was a USMC AV-8r. He was in the hospital visiting his terminally ill wife, and became good friends with my stepfather, who eventually succumbed to Pancreatic Cancer. He also sang the Marine Hymn at my stepfather's funeral. I couldn't have asked for a better match, and they are both quite happy. The Harrier in my Marine Air Force reminds me of them whenever I look at it.

Thanks FlyXwire, his wife succumbed to MD just after my stepfather. The shared loss is a big reason they are together.

Skysurfer, it's not often people can transcend from personal grief,to a place of renewing. I wish your mother and her husband (Dad) every happiness.
