Re: Thinking of buying a Corsair, opinions needed

Elmer, where the hell do ya find this animal?.... I never heard of pre-built Tamiyas.

Link please..

This animal is actually hard to find in hell, or on earth for that matter. There are only two places I have seen it recently:

1) a model shop in SLC
2) greatmodels.com -- there is no direct link, but go to the home page and scroll to the bottom. There is a link to prebuilt models (600 total). You just have to scroll through the list until you get to: 1/48 TAM21040 Vought F4U-1 Corsair Bird Cage - Finished Model.

A while back, it appeared Tamiya was coming out with an entire line of professionally built 1:48 models. They built a T-bolt, Corsair, and I think 1 or 2 others. They have all but disappeared (at least I can't find them any more), and it seems they have discontinued the line. If anyone has better intel than this, please post. As recently as last summer I saw pictures up on Tamiya's web-site, but I can't find them now. Perhaps they have been pulled.

Hey Skunky... I found it on Tamiya's web-site !! With a fairly decent pic also:

Tamiya America Item #21040 | Vought F4U-1 Corsair Bird Cage - Finished Model

It is one of 3 in their Masterworks line--the other two being an ME-262 and T-Bolt. Check it out!

Re: Thinking of buying a Corsair, opinions needed

ME 262 (on sale!):

Tamiya America Item #21021 | Messerschmitt Me262A-1 Clear - Finished Model

T-Bolt (discontinued):

Tamiya America Item #21034 | Republic P-47D Thunderbolt - Finished Model "Razorback"

T-Birds F-16 (for just a few pennies!!):

Tamiya America Item #21044 | F-16C "Thunderbirds" - Finished Model

I was wrong, the Masterworks line has not been discontinued, but it does not appear new aircraft have been added for a while (lots of armor though).

Re: Thinking of buying a Corsair, opinions needed

Give it a year and I bet C1 makes a fine looking one.

Ya know, I certainly won't complain if they do. However, dare I say that I hope EI or HM beats them to it .

Here's why: With EI or HM we will get an in-flight display stand, and will also likely get moving control surfaces and optional display canopy.

I mean no disrespect to C1, it's Dora is spectacular (a top 2006 release in my book) and its P-40 is very nice; however, I was a bit disappointed with the 109 and Wildcat--these lack detail that one should find in a 1:48 model (plus no in flight display stand, moving control surfaces); so... C1 is a bit hit and miss.

C'MON EI or HM, we all want a decent 1:48 Corsair!! (And while you are at it, a P-51D would be lovely also!! )

They're really very nice, but sooooooo pricey though. I'll wait till Carousel, Eagles Intl. or Hobby Master spits out any one of these bad boys!
