Re: Thinking of buying a Corsair, opinions needed

Hi guys! I've started collecting in the 1/72 scale but am about to take the plunge into 1/48 scale. I want to pick up a corsair from the Franklin mint line, Ira Kepford's White 29. However I wanted to get some feedback from the community.. Is there another 1/48 corsair I should look at instead? Thoughts on quality and paint scheme? thanks guys!

Buck

If you want a detailed / accurate looking model, don't look to FM. Right now, Dragon's 1:72 Corsair is the best you will find for detail and accuracy--in diecast that is. Tamiya's 1:48 pre-built plastic Corsair is highly detailed, but also very expensive. If you are willing to wait for a high quality, detailed and accurate 1:48 diecast Corsair, you may not have to wait much longer; the market in 1:48 diecast aircraft is expanding.

Re: Thinking of buying a Corsair, opinions needed

Hey buckaroo13,

I do not own a FM Corsair yet. I do own eight of their 1/48 scale planes and enjoy them very much:

Ju 52
P-40
Mosquito
B-25
B-24
Ju 87G
C-47
F6F

I've read the posts and options presented, here's my take on what I can remember:

1. A 1/72 scale Corsair may come recommended but you've indicated it's not the scale you're interested in for this plane.

2. You can wait until either Carousel 1 or Eagles International release one. This may take years.

3. There are a few very good internet sales options open right now.

I would suggest option three. Buy your FM Corsair now. Enjoy it, with its pluses and minuses. I own two Spec Cast Corsairs, they are very beautiful but have a major shortcoming; no underside wing. I still love those two models! Research your plane, (Diecast Ace has some great reviews of FM's Corsair) and buy one if you want to own one now.

Skunky, I was sitting at work, read your new signature, and sprayed Pepsi out of my nose. It hurts. That is one of the funniest things I have read in a while.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Here's a picture of the FM/Armour 48th Corsair. I think it looks okay.

There's a liquidation sale of FM at Monkey Depot going on, and I believe the Corsair above is still available for a steal.

That's great news! the Mokey Depot is about a mile and a half away from my house and I didn't even know it... I think I'll head over there and see if they still have some Corsairs! I'll get back to you guys later!

Thumbs up Re: Thinking of buying a Corsair, opinions needed

I also have the Boyington corsair. It was one of the very first die-cast I bought and I think it's super cool .

I have a couple of the Dragon 1/72 scale Corsair and I love them, just picked up the VF-17 "white 15" that is just beautiful. Since the Corsair is my favorite warbird I wanted a larger 1/48 scale to act as sort of a center piece.

Thanks for all the input!

Give it a year and I bet C1 makes a fine looking one.
