Re: Another entry in my diecast pilot's log.

...I honestly don't know how you can do that. I'm pretty certain the smallest unit of time would be measured as the interval between the moment I pick the box up off my doorstep, and have the offending diecast in my hot little paws....and it never, never sees the inside of a box again.

Ditto. Isn't it a great feeling to see a large box outside your door, about a week or two after you just ordered a couple planes? And you bring it inside, grab a kitchen knife, carefully open the box, giving the plane(s) a quick check thru the clear plastic to make sure everything's intact?

Then you open the inner box, unscrew the model, feel the cold zinc, examine it from every angle... and it's a keeper!

A great feeling!

Re: My mothballed fleet

When you don't have anywhere to display anymore models you have to settle infrequent visitations. I try not to handle my models very much, once they go to storage, they're usually stay there until new shelving is built.

Now that a certain space hogging female has been removed from the equation new construction plans are underway.

LOL Gavin, that last line was hilarious -- there's a positive outlook on things

I do the same thing -- I only have a 10x12 office at home to display my goodies in (the wife gets the rest of the house :-)), and with going on 200 planes in scales from 1:100 to 1:32 that's just not enough space. So most of my FM stuff -- jets, at least, are in storage until the day when I somehow get more space... though hopefully not at the expense of my space hogging female

I do manage to get around 50-60 models out in my office at one time without looking like too much of a nut And I turnover the display every 6 months or so.

(I may be moving my office to a bigger 12 x 19 space soon... ...)

Vent: I REALLY REALLY HATE Franklin Mint's packaging.... takes up way too much storage space and the boxes are all like twice as big as they need to be...

Vent over.

I got B-26 'Hamilton Hay Maker' yesterday. Ara1-Like you I do the quick scan and immediately note nose MG is out of true, i.e., barrel and receiver are out of line. Kind of blows the 'great feeling.' So, remove from box, no natl insignia(star) on top or bottom of wing. Go to FM website & they don't even recognize the part nr. from the ctn nor the name. I gotta wait until more guys get this model to get their opinions.

I see that you have your prioritys right Gavin. Love me love my planes. I had a parcel yesterday and one today!!!! I think i got away with it!! Maybe the novelty of a heavy snowfall distracted her? I am off to the Carousel site now to have a word with good ol Cardo about the Dora. yes that was in one of the parcels as well as the P40 and I couldnt resist ordering the Gemini Me190 (Russian front) a Dragon Spitfire and a Hurricane from Corgi Warbirds. Well they helped fill the box up. The Hurricane is very good for a fiver ($9.99). If you include the 1/32 Mustang (Stinger) it has been a very satisfactory week. Bloomin expensive tho!!!

LOL!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who sneaks their new acquisitions into the house. Problem is, my wife knows just enough to recognize a new warbird when she sees one on the shelf.

Gavin, you know that the space will be filled again in future by another damsel so you may have to consider being optimistic and not fill the void immediately with die-cast - you must admit that the cold zinc of die-cast does not compare favourably with the warmth of female companionship ...

It's real easy guy's ....Find a chick that fly's for a living...
If she's a pilot you know she'll love the diecast planes.
That way you get the best of both worlds.
Now Gavin get your B-26 on display to enjoy it more.
