New Franklin Mint Olander Corsair

Does any one know if this aircraft is going to carry the marine's Dream noseart of the cowling? I pre-ordered it anyway, becasue it is signed, and I could always add the nose art, but it would be nice if it was included. I also preordered the "909". I worked on the real one, so I had to have this model.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: New Franklin Mint Olander Corsair

That seems like a pretty good deal for a signed airplane.

I didn't think the "Marines Dream" logo was on that version of the Corsair.
It was on a birdcage canopy Corsair.
Be nice to have it.

MD,
I can 't say. The image nor the information provided by Franklin says one way or the other. I posted what pics and information that I have in the B11E383 Vought F4U-1A Corsair (Legend Series) thread.

Re: New Franklin Mint Olander Corsair

I can be way off here, but I think FM is making amodel of Marine's Dream, which was a birdcage Corsair, and using the later canopy version. THere was only one white 576 and the was a birdcage. Basically I think they are just putting the early model paintscheme on a later model mold. That is O.K. with me in the case of the Corsair, plus it is signed. I can over look the canopy.

Sorry to "bust yer bubble", there, MD, but those wonderful "signatures" you guys like to collect are done with a computer-controlled "auto-pen". Yes, it may very well be the exact "facsimile" of his signature, but I really doubt he really signed each and every one. I remember Bob Hoover talking about that very thing on a Mustang model that someone offered awhile back - he said "Sure, it's my signature, but I sure didn't sign every one - that was done by a machine!!" The only way you'll be able to tell whether or not it's the genuine thing, is to compare three or four identical models - if they're very close to the point where you can't tell them apart, they're done with a computerized auto-pen system. Most well-known authors and famous people do things that way nowadays. I got Charlton Heston's "autograph" in his autobiography "In The Arena" several years ago - found out later on, it was done the same way!! That's why I don't buy that stuff anymore, unless I know from a trusted source that it's genuine! Cheers, John

Re: New Franklin Mint Olander Corsair

Most of the stuff I collect is signed infront of me. I was very disappointed in the FM signature Corsair. I thought that it might be the case. It is also a good bet that it is real if it is personalized to you.

Re: New Franklin Mint Olander Corsair

I know for fact that the Bill Overstreet P-51, Berlin Express was hand signed. All 1000 by Bill himself. I'm betting that the other P-51, and Corsair are true autographs also. And in case anyone doesn't know. The planes themselves are not autographed. It's a little rectangular piece of metal, or small plaque as FM calls it, that is signed. You loose that or someone takes it,,,, and you have nothing, except an ordinary FM plane.

Re: New Franklin Mint Olander Corsair

Just a thought Mustangdriver. I don't know of any advantage of preordering planes unless you know that your getting one hell of a deal. It's not like their going to be hard to get a hold of once they hit the shops. I use to preorder but it seemed that once they became available I could usually find them somewhere else for $20 to $30 dollars cheaper.
