If you look at the undersides, do you think it's feasible for a modeler to apply a very thin (almost paper thin) panel of plastic sheet over the faired-over wheel wells? Fitted to panel lines and painted to match to the underside color, of course.

You'd probably be better off just filling the joint lines, sanding them smooth and repainting the underside as it would be tough to match the paint perfectly..
