Re: Franklin to introduce 07 products sometime next week.

As for the Corsair question, there really ain't much to choose from in 1:48 -- I don't count Yat Ming, or the plastic stuff (though there is a 1:48 plastic corsair you can get at wal-mart that looks pretty good... maker escapes me, but you can find info around here with a search... )

It is probably Tamiya's built-up 1:48 Corsair. Have you seen it at Wal-Mart?? If so, that really surprises me. I have seen it at my local hobby shop--it is EXTREMELY expensive--around $150.00 (but it is NICE). I have seen it available from one on-line retailer for about $110.00. If you are interested, PM me.

I agree with you Pappy... it is time for HM or EI to do a spectacular 1:48 Corsair!! Are you reading this HM or EI???

No, it's a plastic pre-built jobbie -- 21st Century 32X, they run about $15 a pop...

D'oh, the one I am thinking of is 1:32... they do have some 1:48 aircraft, too, but I don't think a Corsair yet

Yes, no Corsair yet in 1:48th scale by 21st Century Toys.

Btw, Pappy....you familiar with the brick & mortar shop called Die Cast City in Roseville? It's off on N.Sunrise Blvd./Douglas Rd., in the neck of your woods. It's my first time to check out this shop and they seem to have a pretty good selection of the Franklin Mint/Armour 1:48th diecasts in there. Just thought I'd ask...

Heya Fly,

Yes, I know DC -- only been there a couple times and not for a while now, may be worth another gander (prices were really high last time I was there).

A GREAT shop in the Sac area is RC Country -- largest selection of FM stuff I've ever seen, plus all the other usual suspects (to smaller degrees..).

Hey thanks for the heads up on RC Country, Pappy. Do you mind if you could 'pm' me on their location? Thanks again, buddy.

I should be able to spill the beans tomorrow.

I love the eightball Canucklehead!

I'd love to see 4 new model lines in 1/48th scale from Armour:

(1) The A-4 Skyhawk (incl. a two-seat TA-4J that's configured properly) WITH LEADING EDGE SLATS EXTENDED!!!

(2) The FJ "Fury" (Naval F-86) - see attached photos!! Equipped with proper wing and canopy, as well as
the properly-shaped nose intake - ie, NOT another "F-86 Look-A-Like" model painted up in Fury
colors!!

(3) The LTV F-8 Crusader, as well as the

(4) LTV A-7 Corsair II Series (again, with PROPER wing tanks & accouterments!!)

With these taken care of, I'd be in "Hog Heaven"!! Also, a NA F-100 Super Sabre (Hun) line would also be nice, but maybe that'd be asking too much... - J

Re: Franklin to introduce 07 products sometime next week.

Come now, let's be nice... We all, whether we like FM or not, should give them props for doing so much to help establish this aviation diecast market we're enjoying so much of late. There was a day when all you could get in 1:48 was Gearbox, Speccast, and CDC/FM, which is when I started collecting.

If you think FM molds have issues now for $30-40, try buying Gearbox or SpecCast at $60/pop, which I did because FM was charging $80-90/pop for fighters! (Mid-late 90's).

Gearbox has gone the way of the DoDo...Speccast has all but dried up, too... FM's going strong, or at last has been for a number of years giving us a wide range of models that no one else was in this scale. (And I believe helped others make the plunge into 1:48, and even 1:72 as well.)

Yes, they should wake up and smell the competition's coffee brewing, but at least they've dropped their prices to be more competitive with superior castings from the likes of OMI. (Should I get two or three FM Mustangs, or one OMI? ).

IMHO there would be no Carousel 1 or OMI or HM in 1:48 to drool over if FM did not pave the way.

Also, myself, I like to have a mix of vendors in my collection -- I'll hold onto my speccast (or Speccrap as Skunky calls it) and my Gearbox, and my FM to show the evolution of the hobby -- that, and well, I'd get dimes on the dollar to sell them.. But truthfully, I still like these models for different reasons. It's not all about the rivet-counting to me.

I hope FM keeps going for another 10 years -- even if they never fix that P-51

Now, anyone want to buy some HTF SpecCast...

I agree that "SpecCrap" is just that - however, would someone tell me WHY SpecCast can come out with two different moldings for it's F-86 Sabre line - one WITH the leading-edge slats EXTENDED, and one line without. All Armour does is make one mold for everything - including making them ALL "hard-edged" wings with those little fences about 2/3rds of the way out. The majority of Sabres had leading-edge slats ("Gravity" slats) that were always extended when the plane was sitting on the ground!! Aside from saving a few measly dollars, you'd think they'd quit insulting serious collectors, most of whom know & can spot OBVIOUS differences at a glance!!
Oh well - someone at Armour needs to get slapped - in a serious way, too!! John

Hi everybody, I am a new member and unlike many collectors over here in England, I am a great fan of FM and have several models.

True, they make some mistakes ( 11sqn Tornado F3 ! ), but they also have some classic models, such as the B-17 and B-24.

I am still waiting for a correct HE-111 though.

The news of the Mirage should raise quite a bit of interest this side of the Atlantic, though, and bring more support for FM - if done right !

The Mirage is a model many collectors here want, as it has been sadly neglected by manufacturers.

A RAF Phantom would be great too !

Check out all my RN FG.1 Phantom photos - I never did collect the RAF FGR.2 that Armour offered back in '04 or '05

- since it was just another "F-4" with different sqn. markings on it & RR Spey Engine Exhaust plugs on it; however, the FN FG.1 Phantom was a real looker, I think!! John
