Heinz Bar's RED 13 mount?

Ok, anybody here have one of FM/Armour's 1/48th Fw-190 in their collection? Please give me some opinions about the model - i.e. quality, accurateness and such? I have the MATCHBOX version in 1/72nd scale and I'm really wanting to get this pariticular livery in 1/48th. Thanks for your inputs.

Re: Heinz Bar's mount?

I for one like the 1/48 CDC/Armour FW190s and have the white winter version (CDC) of 'Quax' Schnorrer (http://www.luftwaffe.cz/schnorrer.html) .

As Hworth18 has pointed out in the past the landing struts are not quite right but I don't feel that they detract from the overall look of these particular models. What is strange though is that this 190 from CDC is my only FM/CDC model that is pad printed, unlike the decals on the others - I sincerely hope that one day Franklin Mint will revert back to using the pad printing standard used by CDC originally.

(I have also been tempted to add Heinz Bar's FW190 to my collection as it looks really good - great livery!)

One sheep to rule them all ...

Re: Heinz Bar's mount?

I have Graf's model, from CDC And echo Card's comments -- CDC models are all pad-printed I believe. Once the line changed to FM decals started to appear, and prices went up Then, prices crashed to their now reasonable levels.

The graf 190 is one of my favorite CDC/FM birds, and I have about 15 or so total of various types.

Go for it Fly! (What did you expect me to say, no? )

Re: Heinz Bar's mount?

I have a dozen or so of these and like them for the size. Much more impressive to novice visitors who have no idea who makes or flew what.

I have yet to own a FW though and would like to find the Nowotny one for a reasonable price. I know, good luck. They look very nice and I'm not much of a hair splitter, although I enjoy learning from those who are inclined to that.

Buy now. 2nd guess later.

Don't forget the targets are my airfields, Leigh-Mallory, and you're not getting fifty, you're not even getting ten.

Re: Heinz Bar's mount?

FlyXWire I have two FM 190s: Nowotny (227) & Barr (231). I'm a big fan of FW-190s, and these are two of the best. I must admit, however, that I didn't have use of the GE Electronic 2000x Optical Magnifying scope to check out paint thickness, color rendition, depth of scoring, number of rivets, or the proper landing gear angle. Nevertheless, if you can grab either one for a good price, do so.

That's what's great about 1:48 vs 1:72 -- you only need a 1000x OMS to see all that

Re: Heinz Bar's mount?

I have that particular plane and agree, the landing gear is off, but it's easy enough to overlook and appreciate the rest of the craft. It looks great next to my Gunther Rall 109!! I say go for it. It's one of my favorites.

Re: Heinz Bar's mount?

Did Bar actually ever fly in any bombing missions?

Quite possibly! Though I think he's more proficient in shooting down bombers as well as fighters. I have a photo of him (wearing an A-2 leather flying jacket) inspecting a B-17 he downed called "Miss Ouichita" (sp?).

Thanks for all the recommendation! SOLD!
