Re: RCAF Golden Hawk Sabre

I don't have any more detailed pictures, but could take one out of the box and take some.

Here are some pre-pro's of the CF-18. Please note the pink around the decals will not be pesent when they are printed.

Do you know about this one too? Just curious...

The Franklin Mint Celebrates the Royal Australian Air Force

As part of their ongoing effort to celebrate milestones in aviation history, The Franklin Mint recently announced that they were paying tribute to the 20th Anniversary of the F/A-18 Hornet serving with the Royal Australian Air Force. According to Boeing, "The commemorative paint scheme for the ‘Year of the Hornet’ anniversary aircraft is a fusion of two designs. The first was selected by Air Commodore Mark Binskin, Commander Air Combat Group, from submissions to an internal RAAF design competition. The second was developed by graphic designers from Boeing Australia."
Franklin Mint's limited editon, 1:48 scale Hornet will sport this intricate multi-colored pattern and we hear that only 480 pieces were produced for worldwide consumption.

Sorry, I only knew about the Canadian one because I deal with the Vendor that is commissioning this one.

Cool Re: RCAF Golden Hawk Sabre

Spiffy looking Sabre, Gambit! I wish they also made the scheme for the "Blue Impulse" F-86s - the Japanese Aerobatic Demonstration Team.

FlyXwire - You bet!! Got to see these fellas fly on 3 separate occasions at 3 separate shows overseas while flying P-3's out of Naha, Okinawa in the early 1970's. They flew these Sabres for 21 years, from 1960 to 1981!! They were very reluctant to give them up!!
See attached photos!

Oops...photos seems to be missing?

Yeah, when I was still living in the Philippines back in the 70's I saw them perform at Clark AFB in Pampanga for the last time. I remember being so excited seeing foreign aerobatic demonstration teams and still get 'goose-pimples' thinking about it to this day! Aweeee......

FlyXwire...
I'll "2nd" that! I got to see these fellas perform 3 times while flying P-3 ("B" model) Orions out of Naha, Okinawa. The Blue Impulse with their beloved F-86F-40's were absolutely the best!! The team flew them for 21 years (1960-1981) and their pilots wept bitterly at the official retirement ceremony. I could certainly see why! The F-86F-40 was so maneuverable that it could perform virtually it's entire airshow routine and at the same time stay completely within the boundries of the airfield they were performing at! I could easily compare them as equal if not better than the T-birds or the Blues in some of their routines - they were that accomplished!! I'd give my left "you-know-what" (probably both, actually, since I really don't need 'em anymore... - ) to be able to find a large, 1/32nd or bigger (maybe a 1/18th Sabre & have it painted up, etc.)
Blue Impulse F-86F-40!! But, I'd be happy to settle for a 1/48th from Armour with pad-printed graphics... - - JY

PS: Regarding the Armour "Golden Hawks" CL-13A Sabre (limited edition of 400), a few people have complained about the "gold-finger colored, blandish" gold coloring of this model. Ironically enough, that's actually the color of the real planes - whether this was a fluke (which I strongly suspect) or a case of someone actually "doing their homework" this time, at Armour. Some photos are available on-line that seem to show darker shades of coloring, but these are shots taken from the insides of museums in which the polished surfaces are reflecting darker surroundings and thus appearing to be darker in hue. If you look at the many exterior (outside flying, or on the ground) shots available from the Canadian Gov't archives, you'll see that the color hue Armour has used is very close - indeed, almost exact - to the actual paint scheme!

Re: RCAF Golden Hawk Sabre

I have the Corgi GH Sabre - love it, and you can get them on the bay for about $20 lately if you're after one.

So here's a little quizzer: anyone know where this is??

Trenton, Ontario ,in front of the Town arena

Re: RCAF Golden Hawk Sabre

Franklin has just released 400 limited editions of the RCAF Golden Hawk Sabre. Go to my post in the good deals section (Canadian Stores) for places to buy. The serial number is usually on the underside of the wing.

BTW, it's actually a re-release.

The first run was done quite a while ago.

The Tread was started in 2006. I believe that is when they originally came out and there is no current re-release. We have old tread with new postings here.
Just trying to prevent confusion.
