Seeds of a new addiction?

Since I was a kid I've always had an affinity for the 'Vette. Never owned one, though came close once -- my wife did rent one for a weekend for me once, too -- the real life version of the red '97 shown here. Picked these up cheap on the 'bay recently as I want to have a small display of them to diversify the collection a bit. These are 1:24 scale. Also looking at a 1:18 from Autoart... but I don't want to go nuts with different scales on these. Only so much space...

Re: Seeds of a new addiction?

Don't do it Pappy! If you think collecting diecast airplanes is expensive/time & space consuming then you're gonna hate collecting cars. There are so much more car models than airplanes. My father-in-law has a condo (not his home b/c his wife won't let him keep them there) filled with high end diecast cars. They're all FM's, Danbury Mints, Autoarts, Exotos, Maistros, GMP's, etc.. Then there's also a ton of the cheapo stuff from Walmart and Target.

If you really are going to start with cars you should probably talk to Rockjock. He's got a huge collection!

LOL, thanks for the warning Trex -- I will be able to contain myself with these. Just wanted a few 'vettes from different eras. Though that 1:12 Corvette GMP makes looks awesome, too. But one has to have limits, right?

PappyB, jokes aside, your latest collecting trends are showing that any limits you believe you may have are borderline delusional - take a step back from the precipice and apply those ABS diecast brakes ASAP ...

Re: Seeds of a new addiction?

I have a few 1:18 scale cars made by Exoto and Matchbox (60's era Daytona Cobra, Ferrari 250 LM and 250 GTO and a Porsche 904 race cars) and the quality (especially the Exoto) is pretty good. The big issue with the cars (as shown by your photos) is the seam areas around the doors and engine compartments. They make the panel lines on the IXO and Hobby Master look great. Usually, you have to spend big bucks to get the properly scaled seams. Exoto cars generally start at about $250.00.

Limits???? Willpower????? Sometimes I think we're on this forum to make each other feel O.K. about our lack of limits and willpower when it comes to collecting diecast planes! We're a bunch of enablers............."Hi my name is Trex and I'm a diecastaholic..........."
