Hello to all forum members, i just ordered a FOV 1/16 ( 222 ) Wittmann Tiger I and i noticed on the FOV pic that the road wheels are set wrong, is that the case with the actaul model or is it just the model on the pic ???

Hello Schwarz,

Are you talking about the road wheels on the early model Tiger ? The late model is not the same set up as the early one.

...i am talking about the FOV 1/16 Michael Wittmann Tiger I ( 222 ), which is a late version Tiger, the one that carnaged all that british armor in Villers Bocage !!!
I should be getting the Tiger in a week or so, anyway even if the road wheels are set in the wrong way, i will put them in order !!!

I have the FOV 1/16 Wittmann Tiger '007' and I think that the layout of the roadwheels is correct. I've been checking carefully against pictures in various 'Tiger' books and FOV have got it right for the later, steel-tyre wheel equipped Tigers such as were used in Normandy. ( Earlier, rubber-tyred Tigers had the wheels fitted differently ).

The model still isn't 100%, I'm afraid - the rear idler wheel sits a little too high ( rather like on a Tiger II ) so the tracks don't quite sit properly. This is by far the biggest fault on the model ( I think the turret roof should be raised a little, but quite honestly you'd hardly notice this one ).

I still love the model though - it looks just amazing on display !

You would think that a model that expensive would be close to perfect. Mistakes are picked up at this forum, pretty quickly. FOV should hire a few of our guys for "quality control."

The DAF member identified exactly the faults you mention. I don't recall the road wheels being an issue.

I agree with you completely, and this is in fact the only FOV model I have, in any scale - they're not really one of my favourite manufacturers. But for someone like me, who is interested in Tigers / Wittmann / the Normandy Campaign ( and also would quite like to own a real one ! ) this is the only game in town and is likely to remain so (I'm not a plastic kit-builder ).

Again on the plus side, I have to say that IMPO the finish that FOV have achieved on this model is superb ; better than Minichamps in 1/35 and Dragon in 1/72 which I've previously regarded as benchmarks.
