Re: 1/18 FOV Tanks

I'd say if the FOV 1/18 has the same inaccuracies as the Blue Box Toys 1/18 Abrams, then I'd go with the 1/32.

Re: 1/18 FOV Tanks

CAVTANKER:

I haven't seen good photos of the FOV 1/32.
However, here are side by side photos of 1/18 FOV M1 vs. BBI M1 (the FOV looks a lot better).

Since you own the FOV 1/32, how does it compare to the FOV 1/18 in the photos?

Re: 1/18 FOV Tanks

Which one is which model in those pics? I'm not for certain.

CAVTANKER:

The BBI is "40".

So how does the FOV 1/18 Abrams in the photo compare to your FOV 1/32 Abrams?

Re: 1/18 FOV Tanks

The 1/18 has the correct track and headlight placement when compared to the 1/32. The 1/18 has weld seams similar to the 1/32. However, the 1/18 has a wind sensor that too long, despite being correctly positioned. The GPS protective doors are positioned incorrectly. The 1/32 does have them positioned correctly. It looks like the 1/18 has the TC hatch on backwards, but that would be an easy fix.

Re: 1/18 FOV Tanks

CAVTANKER:

The FOV 1/32 die-cast at Target.com is $42 (online sales only)
From what I've seen, the FOV 1/18 plastic is $30 at Target.

Based on the photos, the FOV 1/18 Abrams is far superior to the BBI 1/18.
But would you buy the FOV 1/18 over your FOV 1/32?

(Since the FOV 1/32 is not in Target stores, I can't compare it to the FOV 1/18 in the photos. Since you own the FOV 1/32, I'm hoping you can compare the 2 FOVs for me)

If I had to, I'd still buy the 1/32. Simply because both models have inaccuracies. IMHO, inaccuracies are easier to overlook on a 1/32 scale over 1/18 scale. And the 1/32 woodland camo and weathering is awesome.

I'd also like to commend the 1/18 for having vision blocks on the driver's hatch. That is a feature not on the 1/32. I just noticed that.

Re: 1/18 FOV Tanks

CAVTANKER:

Thanks for the info.
The FOV 1/18 Abrams desert paint looks great in the photos and the owner says the weathering on it is great. I assume the FOV 1/18 NATO paint has weathering, too.
This is the only photo I can find of the FOV 1/18 Abrams in NATO paint (unfortunately it's in the box---I'll have to go Target and find one to see for myself).

Re: 1/18 FOV Tanks

I went to Target today, and the store had four M1A1 Abrams:

1. FOV 1/18 desert paint ($30)---looked exactly like the photos above. The best of the four with very impressive detailing and weathering. I didn't buy it because I don't like desert paint and it's too big.
2. FOV 1/18-NATO paint ($30)---looked like photos on the SmallScaleHQ photo section---little, if any, weathering and dark paint obscures detailing making it look like a big, plastic toy.
3. FOV 1/32 desert paint, diecast ($25)---I think this is a discontinued model. Looked ok, but machine guns and commander looked phony and toy-like.
4. BBI 1/18 desert paint ($30)--worst of the four with dried-mustard desert paint and detailing that paled in comparison to the FOV 1/18 desert as seen in the photos above.

I'll save my money for one of the upcoming 1/32 F-4 Phantoms. However, I'd love to see a 1/32 plastic Nato-paint M1A2 for about $20.

FOV has a 1/72 NATO-schemed M1A2 for future releases.
