New 1/72s are out

Has anyone noticed that Bad Cat Aviation Toys has the new 1/72 Spitfire and P-51D in stock! The Spitfire looks OK but I don't know about the Mustang.

I don't like the way the cowl covers open on that P-51D but the Spitfire looks a little better.

Good point about cowing on the P-51.

The Mustang looks far inferior to Dragon's but better than Corgi's... and yes, the engine access covers look a bad fit. I would like to put the FOV Spit beside GA's, but I can't say I am really interested in either of these releases. I fear they will do more harm toward getting definitive versions of these models at 1:48.

I hate to sound negative, but I wouldn't give them $5 bucks and free shipping for the both of them. I have quality aircraft on my shelves and I don't think FOV will ever get it together so that there will be a place for them on MY shelf. I am sorry if I offended anyone who likes the FOV line, really I am.

Re: New 1/72s are out

Does the prop on the Mustang look like a Spitfire IX prop or is it just me??

Good catch! To the best of my knowledge the P-51Ds during WWII used a cuffed Hamilton Standard prop which did not have any taper at its base.

BB,

I really like the FoV line but I have to agree with you here. I was so looking forward to these Spits and Mustangs. The Spitfire I may consider buying but the Mustang just disappoints me. The propeller blades are 100% totally wrong, the P-40ish style panels above the engine don't seem to fit well nor am I sure they are correct, and some of the markings appear to be missing. I have a 20 spot that I can spend on a diecast plane but I'm not spending it here. I'm buying a Corgi Fw-190 instead. I may get one of these when they show up at Target. Hopefully they will cost a bit less and will be worth a smaller cash investment.

I gotta agree. I thought the Spitfire might be acceptable until I had a closer study of the canopy and windscreen. FOV would have been further ahead had they just released two new liveries of their (very nice) P-40B casting!

I would have like to see them put a few more of the P-40Bs out. An AVG, and North Africa paint schemes for starters
