First generation FOV were a sight t behold. The panel lines had to be seen to be believed.
The latest, Black Aces is well done and will not be out of place beside the CW Tomcats.

Re: FOV Tomcats

The second generation FOV Tomcats are almost exactly the same model as CW, only differences are the canopy has exposed hinges, the ejection seat rings are thicker & there is a little extra plastic on the front gear.
Unless you know to look for those little things, it would be hard for most to tell the difference between it & a CW.
Yoshi the man behind CW, designed the FOV Tomcat, he only slightly modified the mold when he re released it under the CW name.

Re: FOV Tomcats

CW Tomcats are based on the FOV latest Tomcat mold. The biggest differences are the hinges on the FOV canopy and the area in between the hold back bar connection on the nose gear is solid plastic when it should be an empty space. I have mine displayed gear up and if you didn't know it was FOV you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference from a CW.

(edit: Phantom beat me to it! I didn't know Yoshi made the original FOV mold, though.)

Re: FOV Tomcats

I was thinking about picking this one up myself but have one question, which I'm sure has been covered on here many times: Is the Black Aces scheme on the FOV tomcat the Gulf of Sidra scheme?

Killing threads since 2006.

No. It's a 1992-1993 post-Desert Storm scheme, during a period when VF-41 was operating stateside doing some early Bombcat qualification work. The scheme is actually quite nice -- overall gull gray, but with a very sharp black antiglare panel that has a "pinstripe" and runs all the way to the tip of the nose. Also has a 1970s-style large stars-and-bars in full color, which I like.

I received one of these yesterday and will post some pictures soon.

Wink Re: FOV Tomcats

I have the FOV Black Aces and I put it next to the CW version and they are 99% the same. With the exceptions mentioned already. The FOV F-14's are a great alternative to the more expensive CW's. I highly recommend getting one or two or three as they make great gifts!

Re: FOV Tomcats

not quite 99% the same but as i posted sometime ago the FOV is yoshi's prototype.
certainly the second best tomcat out there, now becoming quite hard to find especially the VF-41 jet.

Re: FOV Tomcats

Ok its ordered. If it sucks I'll give it to the boy, but hoping it will be a good mate for the 99% perfect CW Black Aces bird.
