FOV VF-41 Question

Hi Guys,

Just got my VF-41 today. But I noticed that both its Vertical tail fins is aligned 90 deg from the base, is it suppose to be sligthly slant outwards right? is it just this particular model of mine or all of FOV's tomcats are like this? was hoping to correct them by detaching them from the base and glue it back on with the correct alignment.but they are properly glued, and Im afraid I will eventualy break them if I force them ou. hope you guys can give me advise on this matter thanks!

Alain

Re: FOV VF-41 Question

This is normal. They are supposed to be something like 5 degrees outward (don't quote me) but they didn't get that part right. CW uses the same basic mold for their Tomcats and they have the same issue. I wouldn't risk ruining the model to correct that issue, it'd be really easy for that to go wrong.

Re: FOV VF-41 Question

Guys,

My second FOV VF-41's Parts doesnt seem to fit properly. I'm talking about the part which the Phoenix Missles are attached. they doesnt seem to flush along with the fuselage, there is a 2mm gap and will not align. and its quite ugly to look at. the only option here is to glue them together, but I dont want to do this as of the moment. Your advises are highly appreciated. thanks!

Re: FOV VF-41 Question

My suggestion would be to leave the pallets off entirely...

You mean, not puting them on? I realy like the look of the tomcat with the Phoenix Missles, but if all things fail, will just have to glue them as a last resort.

Btw, is this realy an issue of FOV? of parts and missles not fitting together smoothly and seamless....

Re: FOV VF-41 Question

The gaps are present in the CW F-14s too. You can see them in the CW website.

Re: FOV VF-41 Question

I don't have any FOVs, Alain....but even Century Wings has a bit of a problem with the Phoenix pallet attachment fit....That's why my VF-84 Jolly Rogers AJ210 is displayed with just a pair of Sidewinders. I like the slick look of it.....

I cut the pins off the pallets of my VF-111 Sundowners and then glued them in place with white glue and wrapped rubber bands tightly around the fuselage overnight...They now are on quite snug and the nice part about using white glue is that I can remove them without surface damage should I ever want to. It's also very easy to remove any glue that squeezes out the sides when you attach them.

Re: FOV VF-41 Question

Valkyrie and Skunky,

Thanks for the information, my other VF-41 also has gaps but not as big as my second one. they are realy anoying to look at. well, I guess for now will just have to leave them off.

Part of the reason, I think is that this particular model has a gap between the fuselage about .5mm, the back end of the fuselage " near the intake" protrude downwards also by .5mm. but upon taking a hard look at the model, even the gap in the fuselage is not enough for the pallets not to align properly. .5mm gap for me is tolerable, but beyond that, they realy need to be fix if ever there is anything we can do about it.
