P-40 fit questions

So I just bought the Target version of the Pearl Harbor P-40 and the fit of the engine panels really sucks. Is the other version ( wheels up ) any better or is it hit and miss with these guys?

Re: P-40 fit questions

Shawn,

I have both the gear up Enthusiast Version and the less expensive store version. The fit on the engine panels is not very good on either one. Part of the problem is the small pegs that are meant to fit into the holes in the body. I removed these with my X-acto knife and that helped a little. Be sure to press the panels tightly. Some white glue might help too.

Re: P-40 fit questions

Yeah that was the easy bit. Mine has a gap that runs under the bottom of the panel and the verticle area. It almost looks like the front end is drooping, well almost. The pics on Bad Cat Toys looks good, but once bitten...

Re: P-40 fit questions

Shawn,
My Enthusiast version seems to fit better. There is a small gap at the bottom of the left panel, but it isn't too noticeable. The right panel is fine with no gap what so ever. The store version I repainted chrome silver so the gaps at the bottom and vertical areas of both panels are more prominent. Sorry I couldn't help you out more. I guess this problem is a normal occurrence on this model.

Re: P-40 fit questions

I may still take the plunge. If it sucks the boy will have two new planes.

Re: P-40 fit questions

I picked up two of the Target versions and both had loose panels, but with a little Elmers at least they stay on now.

Re: P-40 fit questions

Loose wasn't the issue. It was the gaps between the upper and lower portions of the plane. I don't think mine was fully seated when they popped the rivet. I've filled the gaps with putty and painted over for now. It'll due until I can get a better early P-40.

Re: P-40 fit questions

I got a wheels up version early on and I've got no fit issues at all.

Re: P-40 fit questions

Well I ordered the other version and will hope for the best. I was also interested in the black Corsair, but after seeing one and its fit issues at Toys R Us. I passed on it as well. I guess we'll see in a week.
