Question Re: Fov F-14

That one could wipe out my "ONLY 2 CW Tomcats.." stance... Mr. Skunk, I agree -- it would be great to see.

I must say the new FOV doesn't look bad at all, though.

Which two PappyB? I've been snooping around your site and had no luck finding them.

Haven't got around to photographing them yet! I've got a bit of a backlog to get through... I hope to get to them this coming weekend.

I have the launch config Jolly Rogers (203) and Grim Reaper bombcat...

Re: Fov F-14

I would still rather drop 20 bucks more for a CW Tomcat and have the ejection seat handles, more refined gear struts and canopy mechanism....It's hard to settle for 2nd best even if it saves a few bucks. Whenever I've done it, every time I look at the thing I think "There's a better one out there, why did I waste my money on this?"

I guess if it's your goal to amass as many models as you can, it would be different, but such is not the case for me. I've reached the point where I can only afford (spacewise anyway) to take on the 'best of the best' so to speak...So I'm going to make sure it's the best example currently available, even if I have to fork over a few more bills than I would have for the runner-up..

Here, here.. I agree 100% with your 'modus operandi' .

Sadly though, it may be too late for some of us to emulate your example of sound wisdom, Skunky.

Ditto that sentiment Fly my friend -- sadly I'm a sucka for sales... and suddenly I have a tomcat or two from everyone when a year ago I had none

I do like to get at least one model from everyone though when possible for the site if nothin' else -- I buy the crap so that you don't have to

Re: Fov F-14

Ah, but we know Century likes The Final Countdown it seems. And while they're (intentionally?) not seen much in the film, VF-41 was wearing full low-vis markings during the movie. (VF-84 was in transition, lots of hybrid/unique schemes that year for each plane). So if Century keeps making Final Coundown planes, they could very well do VF-41 in "Libyan Shootdown" colors----or ones very similar. 1979 vs 1981---not any differences I know of for VF-41 paint (though VF-41 is one of the squadrons I'm least familiar with)

So when did they start getting the black radomes? I've seen only images that label VF-41 with black radomes as 1978 time

Re: Fov F-14

Black radome was the delivery scheme, and made a few reappearances later. By the filming of The Final Countdown, VF-41 already had several (if not all) planes repainted into the 2nd scheme (overall gull grey with small tail logos), which they would also wear in the Libyan incident. 1978-79-80 was the transition period for both VF-41 and 84 from the delivery scheme into the overall gull grey scheme.

VF-31 has black radomes more often.
