P-40 #85031?

I'm confused. When I googled the model # for the 1/72 scale Forces of Valor P-40, 85031, I find some sites show pictures of a P-40B (2 guns per wing, two guns on the cowling and the smaller canopy), but other sites show a P-40E (3 guns per wing and larger canopy). Both are olive drab with the fuselage number 160. Different planes, same markings and same model number. Help!

You must be confusing between the Dragon release (or soon to be released P-40E below) to the FOV P-40B/C. I also have the latter, and though it may depict a "Pearl Harbor" livery with
OD colour scheme, it ain't quite the same as the one Dragon's. Does this help you any?

Re: P-40 #85031?

Thanks, flyXwire, but I know about the Dragon P-40E and have it preordered. I 'm confused by sites offering the FOV P-40 #85031. Some show images of a B/C and some show images of an E.

Don't know about the "E" version you are seeing leeG, but the model you are inquiring about is a true B/C version with the twin mounted cowl guns and two on each wing. I've got three and they are all the same.

Re: P-40 #85031?

The early promo pics of the FOV P-40 did indeed show an E-model. Rest assured that the model in the stores is a B.

Thumbs up Re: P-40 #85031?

Thanks buckiav8r and HotTrap for clearing this up. That early promo picture threw me. I'm ordering one and wanted to make sure I got a B.

You are very welcome. It's a really nice B/C model - you won't regret it.

Thumbs up Re: P-40 #85031?

The model was delivered today, and I am impressed. It will be fine addition to the P-40 shelf. I like the early war color and markings and will display it alongside the soon to be released Dragon P-40E. Both Pearl Harbor based fighters. I don't know if it is intentional or accidental, but the alignment of the wing guns shows proper aim point convergence. Most of my diecast models have either straight forward facing guns, or in the case of IXO, radically miss-aligned barrels.

As to the specific type of P-40, it is indeed a B/C. The instructions show a B/C. The artwork on one side-panel of the box side has a nice action illustration of a B/C. But on the bottom of the box, where the "COLLECT THEM ALL" pictures of the various FOV models are shown, sits that P-40E picture which caused my original type confusion! You would think Unimax Forces of Valor would fix that picture.

Or do you suppose they have a E somewhere, waiting in the wings?

Nice thing about the FOV P-40 B/C model is that you can make a up a diorama setting (being serviced by mechanics/ground crew) because of the engine details provided.

It's also a great kit to use as a base model if you like customizing. These are just $12.99 at Target.
