Re: B-26 Review

The B26 worked real hard over here during and after D Day so its a definate must have .
I read that it was a tricky bird to fly but once mastered the pilots said it was great aircraft.

I understand that the wing had a very high load factor, and you needed to keep the speed up (land hot and long). If you let the speed drop too much, things could get interesting really fast. So long as you kept her moving at a nice clip, she was a sharp flyer.

I've read that the Martin 404 had a similar wing configuration (and similar flight characteristics), and a number of ex-B-26 pilots flew the 404 when they came home after the war.

Yikes. now you tell me about the Martin 404. I flew on that bird a few times in & out of Logan in the early 50s.

Just went to my local hobby shop and lo and behold I saw this plane for sale. Cost $59.99. Even with the shipping I paid less. I'm still seeing the B-26 and B-25 for $39.99 on some on-line retailers.

Re: B-26 Review

I know. It's just that, compared to the degree of detail found on the rest of the model, the tail gunner canopy looks strikingly out of place. I know of at least three distinct configurations of tail "stingers" on B-26s:

I'm not even sure which of these is supposed to be modelled here.

For comparison, here's a few pictures that I took in April 2007 of the tail gunner canopy on the awesome B-26 at the Musee de l'Air in Paris.
