FOV corsair

I was looking at my FOV corsair today,
The more I look at it the more I like it.

Is it possble that the FOV corsair be better detailed than the corgi version?
Anybody has any opinion on that?

Re: FOV corsair

I have the FOV VMF-351 Corsair and I love it! The details are on par with Corgi and in some instances, they surpass the pooch. The only glaring issue I have is that the engine cowling has a pronounced uplift from the rear forward. FOV included the exhaust pipes behind the cowling flaps and I think they cause the fit to be a little off. Hence the entire cowling doesn't quite sit right on the plane. Not a real big issue - something I can definitely live with! Overall for the money, this plane is a bargain.

Re: FOV corsair

For ten bones you can't beat it. I've got a couple of them and they look fine compared to both my Corgis and MBs.

Re: FOV corsair

I agree with HotTrap, although my Corsair doesn't seem to have the same cowl problem.. The FOV Corsair is probably one of their best planes..

For the price you can not beat them! Half of what Corgi's or Dragon's cost for the most part.

Re: FOV corsair

My thought was without cost aside,
I find the corgi corsair less appealing no?

Re: FOV corsair

Without price being factored in, I'd say it's a draw. I like my Corgi Corsairs and find them to be accurate. There are some gimmicks that FOV adds, like the open gun panels, the textured wheels, and the open machine gun holes that add to their models. Corgi has a better selection of markings, many of the same fine details, and great resale value. IMHO, it evens out in the wash.

Re: FOV corsair

Whenever I tried to get the FOV planes, the horrible windshield paintings turned me away every time. It looks like the paint is running all over the windshield.

Re: FOV corsair

I was in Target today and saw the new F4U Corsair Dark navy blue.
This must be one of their latest ones out and it's a little better looking then the early Corsairs that FOV came out with.
It looks to be the same mold and I still like Corgi's Corsairs a little better.
But for the price you can't beat it....I have not seen the bad windshield paintings yet either.

Re: FOV corsair

On MH I, I did a pretty detailed review/comparison of the FOV/Matchbox/Corgi Corsairs. Since then I've changed jobs and now do not seem to have saved that review.

For the most part, I think the FOV Corsairs are pretty well done - especially for the price. The FOV was an accurate mold for the later model WWII Corsair. Exhaust "ports" were done the best between MB and Corgi 1:72. Cockpit frame/glass was done accurately for this model. The one question I remember having was the circular marking on the tail flat surfaces - above or below??? corgi/MB had them one way (circles on one side upper surface, circles on the lower surface of the opposite side) - FOV had the circular marking on both tail wings' upper surfaces. Seems like I had reference artwork (no photos) that showed both ways.

I also think the sealant tape (white markings in front of the cockpit) look the best compared to MB and Corgi.
