Re: Colorful bunch of 1/6 Aviators

Hey Dave, I'm gonna let you see one of my custom projects: work-in-progress. Have you ever seen or heard of the movie called "The Hunters"? It stars Robert Mitchum as an ACE F-86
fighter pilot and he was called the 'ICEMAN', the first jet age combat pilot. Anyhoo, here is a custom painted helmet which bears his name 'Saville' as in Major Cleve Saville character
he plays in that movie. I am, at the moment, painting a headsculpt which bears the actor's likeness to complete a full figure of an F-86 Sabre jet pilot from the Korean War era. I'll post
the finished figure sometime. Hope you'll like this one.

Great job Fly! Do you have the BBi Bud Mahurin? It's a great one to have if you don't!

Thanks for the compliments guys!

trex, I got 2 Bud Mahurins - one to open and one to keep pristine for later sell. BBI's Elite Force Aviator line is
the best out there next to Hot Toys aviator figure sets. Their U-2 pilot is their crowning achievement in craftmanship, detailing and accuracy in gear and accessories.
I just wished BBI continued doing more of it.

Re: Colorful bunch of 1/6 Aviators

That is some great custom work there FlyX!
I have been looking for BBi's Japanese pilot for some time now, but can't seem to find one at a decent price.

And, not to hijack or take this offtopic, but I am really looking forward to Macfarlane's(?) upcoming WWII fighter pilot series in 1/12? (if it ever comes out).

Great work on that helmet, fly. Any chance you could make me a Maverick helmet?

I cannot believe I had the opportunity to buy a BBI U-2 pilot for $25+ shipping from KB toys a few years back and I didn't do it.

Harry, I'll be on the lookout for the BBI Japanese pilot for you. The last G.I.Joe show I went to had one for sale at $40 and it had not sold that day. If it's still there on the next show, I'll be sure to snag it for you.

FFP1, I will eventually get around to doing Maverick's helmet. Since I own the 1:1 replica for reference, I need to figure out how to do the intricate graphics first, and then just transfer it to a decal sheet.

I feel your pain on not getting it for that price! The BBI U-2 pilot can fetch up to $200+ on eBay these days even if the figure and set doesn't come with a box last I check.

Re: Colorful bunch of 1/6 Aviators

Fly,

where did you get your replica Maverick helmet? I know of a couple of places that do custom helmets, someday (when I can afford to fork up $600+) I want to have one made. Can you post pics of it? Also, I will gladly buy one of those 1/6 Maverick helmets from you if you would make me one. I made a 1/6 Maverick figure and the only thing I'm missing is a helmet. I have the BBI Chargers helmet which is the "stand in" at the moment since it's black and red.

Re: Colorful bunch of 1/6 Aviators

FFP1,

I purchased my replica Maverick helmet at the San Diego Aerospace museum back in 1995 for $750, if my memory serves me correctly. You can see pics of my helmet by clicking on the "photo album" just below my avatar. If I figure out how to mass produce the helmet artwork in 1/6 scale, I'll be sure to let you know. Will probably make them as decals so I'll give you a sample later on.
