Re: The Duke in "Flying Tigers"

I like it but will wait and hope they do the Duke as LTC. Benjamin Vandervort 2/505 PIR Cmdr from the Longest Day. Then I'm in with both feet.

Dragon did this in 1/6 already as a CyberHobby exclusive, and it will set you back about 300 bucks if you can find one for sale.

I have one and will post pics maybe this weekend. I had heard that there was litigation with the Duke's family over his likeness being used on the figure.

Isn't Dragon's headsculpt likeness to J.W's. image not quite there, IIRC?

Re: The Duke in "Flying Tigers"

I would love to see the Duke as he was in the "Flying Leathernecks".

Re: The Duke in "Flying Tigers"

Fly; I don't agree with Jim; AT ALL (on this one)!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure I'm not the only kid that watched that Film on T.V. when 'Peyton-Place' & suchlike were being screened in the 1960's.

One of his most 'Iconic' portrayals - I think it's a GREAT figure.... (though I'm NOT into figureines)

Those 'Flying-Tiger' (like) 'Jackets' were "all the rage" in London, around 15 - 20 years ago........

Gotta attribute THEIR popularity, to John Wayne.

Only thing about the film that's "naff" for me, is the 'Bomber' & 'T.N.T.' part

Thanks Jim; next time I go on an 'F.M' 'blitz', I'll buy a Chenualt-P.40, & think of you & 'the' Film !!!!!!!!!!

GREATEST BUNCH O GUYS EVER TO CLIMB INTO FIGHTER PLANES.

Dont get me wrong Horny I liked the film.

We have been here before in another thread, John Wayne played John Wayne in every film he made, but I think he was great so that was OK with me!

Example of the Duke playing the Duke, how about his portrayal as a Roman Centurian in the Life of Jesus.

Director, John er that was oK but could you put some awe into it.

John, oK , awwwwwwwwww surely he was the son of God.

God Bless America.

Re: The Duke in "Flying Tigers"

Whether or not John Wayne was a great actor is debatable, although I don't think he was as bad as his detractors suggest. Who cares, anyway? Whenever I watched Wayne in any of his movies---even the horrible "Green Berets"----he came off as just the kind of guy I would like to have around in case of trouble, especially when injustice or enemy aggression was involved. As an all-American hero figure, he was superb. As for his acting, did anyone see "The Searchers" or "In Harm's Way" or "They were Expendable"or "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" or "True Grit"-----to name some standouts. There's got to be a reason why John Wayne remains a Hollywood icon thirty years after his death. One may not agree with his politics or decry some of his poorer movies---and there were some. But let's not forget all of those Wayne classics. I still watch them every time they pop up on my TV screen.

Re: The Duke in "Flying Tigers"

Well you like Spitfires too, so your thought on this matter are of no concern to me!

John Wayne makes a beret look good. Now, myself, I make a beret look...not as good.

A 1/4 figure...well, that's still bigger than Mickey Rooney
