Quality 1/6 pilots

I've seen the complaints about Dragon here but am wondering about BBI. Anyone on these forums collect 1/6 pilots who can help? Who makes good 1/6 pilots and where are they sold? Thanks!

Re: Quality 1/6 pilots

I've collected all the modern jet pilots as well as other era aviators so here are my order of preference:

1.Hot Toys - Essentially, this company started the whole trend back in 2000 by offering excellently detailed/life-like pilot figures of the F-14 Tomcat from the VF-84 "Jolly Rogers" squadron, and an F/A-18 "Black Knights". These
pilot sets were very expensively priced at the time with an MSRP of $95 value, but you get what you have pay for - guaranteed! I posted some pics of the HT F-16 and F-22 pilots from another thread.

2.BBI - This company is more like DML/Dragon in that it marketed it's 1/6 pilot figures were aimed at the GI Joe collectors. Figures were very reasonably priced at $30 - $35 a set. BBI specialized in aviator figures from both WWII and from the
Modern genre. You absolutely need to own their U-2 (could also pose as an SR 71 BB substitute) pilot set as it is their "crowning achievement" and arguably, the "crown jewel" of all 1/6 aviators ever made! BBI also made a superbly detailed cockpit of the F-15 Eagle in 1/6 scale for their F-15 driver figure as well! Check it out on BBI's homepage. Stunning piece of artwork and craftsmanship.

3.Dragon - Well they also made several from WWII to modern although their jet pilot aviators were well equiped like Hot Toys and BBI, it doesn't quite measure up to HT & BBI's standard in accuracy, attention to detail, and well researched approach to current gear and equipment given to the HT and BBI figures.

I would highly recommend the jet pilot figures from Hot Toys and BBI first and foremost. Ebay is your most likely place to find the pilot sets, but if you like you can send me a 'PM' and I maybe able
to help you obtain a BBI F-15 and F/A-18 boxed set of pilots.

Re: Quality 1/6 pilots

yes hottoys are the best but very expensive in the uk!
i have only one of these that i picked up off ebay from the states for about £20 its the desert storm f16 pilot
bbi's u2 pilot is a stunning peice of work and highly sort after another bargain!
i would say some of the dragon stuff is very good but some of the flight gear seems a bit of a loose fit.
have tended to replace this with bbi gear purchased loose from a very good seller on ebay called blackopsgear

Re: Quality 1/6 pilots

One thing I'd like to see from Hot Toys is that they should make an modern RAF Tornado or Typhoon aviator. The P-4 oxygen masks
has been moulded and is already available from the Brit SAS HALO figure set. I really REALLY want to see a fully kitted-out RAF
fighter pilot for the longest time!

Might not be the best, but I just scored this brand new/unopened on eBay for a whopping 99 cents.
