Corgi's Erwin Rommel - Out Now!

Rommel

For three Years, Axis and Allied forces chased each other over the hostile terrian of the North African desert. The tide turned in the Allies' favour at the Second Battle of El Alamein in 1942. British General Montgomery spent months building up an overwhelming advantage in men and armour, before launching his attacks against Field Marshal Rommel's German and Italian troops. Winston Churchill was convinced that the battle of El Alamein marked the turning point of the war and ordered the ringing of church bells all over Britain. As he said later: "Before Alamein we never had a victory, after Alamein we never had a defeat".

Re: Corgi's Erwin Rommel - Out Now!

I saw this figure on the same day I found my Minichamps R01 Panther .

It's really well made and has exceptional detail . Were it not for the high price (US$ 25) I might have bought it.

I think that is really neat that they make figures like that.
Like to see them make many more important people of history too.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Churchill one - truly a genius, statesman and maverick in his own right!

(Also quite eccentric and obsessive like most die-cast collectors .)

Interesting figures. I think that they are a bit cheaper in the U.K. Check sites.

I wouldn't call Churchill a genius, Cardinal. No doubt, he was the man in the right place at the right time and he did stir things up a bit, but he was somebody who could also make dreadful mistakes which people needlessly paid for with their lives.

This is not the thread to go into that....perhaps I'll establish one.

Perhaps not a genius per se, but he sure showed flashes of genius throughout his career.

As for making mistakes, true, don't we all as result of being human? I do think though that his successes and positive impact on history far outweigh any of his mistakes and/or failures.

Re: Corgi's Erwin Rommel - Out Now!

I loved Churchill, and the man was a genius as an orator and author. His leadership during one of the world's most frightening conflicts is legendary. Did he make mistakes? Certainly. Was he saint? Certainly not. Was he human? Absolutely. One of the greatest men in modern times -- at least in my book.

Re: Corgi's Erwin Rommel - Out Now!

I bought the Rommel 1/32 figurine today as it is truly exceptional . I was also planning to get the Churchill one but is is not that well detailed and it appears that he has been put on a diet - not appropriate for the beloved and portly statesman/leader .

Re: Corgi's Erwin Rommel - Out Now!

Is there a website in the States where you can buy the Rommel?
I was told the Rommel and a few others are only available in the UK.
