Re: 1/72 German armoured infantry

Has anyone ever tried to paint a camo pattern on his 1/72 figs?

Yes. You can really make it look good on a 1:72 figure too if you practice and use the right paints.

Re: 1/72 German armoured infantry

Dear Rubberduck,

Yes. I do it. It's not as bad as it appears daunting.

1 coat your figs in green

2 dab the sand/ochre with a no 02 brush. Use a cheap one and cut the hairs down to about 2 to 3 mm.

3 do the same with the brown.

work the paint by short dabbing, stabbing onto the fig. Keep the brush as dry of paint as poss. In this way you get an effect which resembles the randomness of the original cloth.

work mainly on the smock...don't worry about going over the edges too much.

next do the combat pants in geenish grey.

next work on the details : weapons, pouches, straps, boots, etc.

Get a permanent ink pen in black to do the leather straps ( they are raised and easy to do with a pen. Also, the straps will look like polished leather when you do them! You can do chinstraps using this method with a finer ink pen.

Next, work the flesh onto the face and hands then touch up areas which you're not happy with.

Lastly, the helmet.

Seal with matt varnish ( sprayed lightly ) Try one fig first to see if the varnish will take.

Paint about 6-8 figs at once. This is an optimum number for keeping you busy all the time. If you are painting off sprue, Blue-tack the fig to a paint pot or the end of a pencil.

Re: 1/72 German armoured infantry

Legio,
these figs is the most outstanding 1:72 work I've ever seen! They're just amazing! Never seen so much detail in such a small scale.

Re: 1/72 German armoured infantry

Dear JC Woodman,

I forgot to say, when you are buying a pen for the strapping, make sure that it is a carbon tipped, flat point type. The type which people use to make technical drawings. Use it at 90 degrees to the figure, not too much of an angle!

Good luck,

MoMo

Re: 1/72 German armoured infantry

Check out the review of this brilliant little set which I picked up from a model shop in Brussels on my recent trip to the capital of beer and chocolate.

I'll be painting it soon to crew all those Hannomags from Dragon which I still have to build.

This is one of the most useful sets from Preiser. On the same site you can track down the set of early war Germans dismounting from a Hannomag. Great stuff, Preiser!

Happy viewing....MoMo

Re: 1/72 German armoured infantry

Check out these 1.72 Preiser figures. Lots of sets and some pre-painted.
