Hungarian AF Bf 109G

I previously have only had one Easy Model aircraft and that was one of their Mig-3s. Today I picked up their Hungarian Bf 109G-6 and for under $10.00 its not a bad looking model. A couple things could be tweaked on it, but overall it is a nice looking model. After seeing this one I am going to pick up a few more of their Bf 109s. The ones I am looking at are the Bf 109G-10 Hungarian, Bf 109G-10 Croatian, and the Bf 109E Romanian Air Force model. The Romanian one is Bf 109E is even sporting a bomb load. Kind of wish Corgi would have put out a bomb packing Bf 109E. I like the paint schemes of these minor air forces, that and the major diecast companies probably will never tough these type of paint schemes, so have to go with Easy Model on these.

Great looking plane! I don't have this one but I have all the German 109G's from Easy Model. I like them overall and can't beat the price!

The Croat one is cool. A must...

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

Don't forget the Luftwaffe's BF-109Es. Once fixed up a bit the MRC birds look nifty.

I sincerely hope this does not offend, the livery looks like something I would have contemplated when I was 10 years old. It's quite garish, and pure eye pollution.

No offense, but nobody ever claimed the Hungarians were world-class designers. I have three of the Easy Model 109s - the Hungarian, the Croatian and the Romanian. The paint schemes on all three are pretty obnoxious, but if that's how the countries painted them, that's what we're stuck with (assuming Easy Model didn't screw up the liveries). So if you want representatives of the eastern European countries allied with Germany in WWII, this is what you've got.

I'll get these, but I refuse to cross the line and get that Corgi B-24 all decked out in yellow and black checkers. Now THAT'S obnoxious! OMG!

Re: Hungarian AF Bf 109G

The BF-109Gs used by Germany's allies in WW II were, for the most part, issued in standard Luftwaffe livery. The exception, of course, being the national insignias, unit and aircraft markings, etc. While I like MRC's Easy Model line, I find that I have to do some work on each plane to make it pass muster. In addition to dulling down the models and adding swastikas to Luftwaffe planes, I try to weather them---which is difficult due to their lightly indented panel lines---and many ducts/vents/shell casing ejection ports should be darkened. Certain navigation lights are also overlooked by MRC and they neglect to paint red striped markings on the trim tabs of many Luftwaffe fighters. Finally, the mottling on some Easy Model depictions of German fighters lacks sophistication and does, on occasion, look toy-like.

Still, I like this line and will continue to use it as a fill-in for planes like the ME-163, F2A, F8F, MS-406, Dewoitine D. 520, LA-7 and many others, pending the arrival of quality diecast product.

Re: Hungarian AF Bf 109G

I like the looks of minor Axis allies, because they did play a role in WWII aviaition history. Personally I like to have a collection that covers a broad segment of WWII aviation, and Easy Model does help out in covering the missed coverage of history. I was really surpised to see that they chose to make a Croation aircraft, and I definitly have to pick that one up. I have plans for making a 1/48th scale Ki-27b-Kai in Manchuko Air Force markings, now those look different.

I wouldn't go there either, OMG were the descriptive words for Corgi's B-24. Obnoxious is a fair assessment of the 109s.
