Mig-3, my first Easy Model

Well I just received my very first Easy Model yesterday and it is a fairly nice looking Mig-3. Overall these models definitely provide some nice filler for the current gaps in the diecast models that are available. That little Mig of theirs looks pretty nice and I might just pick up the one painted in Rumanian markings. I really do like the feel of a diecast model heft wise, but nice to see some of these more neglected type aircraft and some of the more interesting looking liveries. After taking some measurements, found that their model also right in as far as scale goes. Until someone puts out a nice diecast Mig-3, this will do just fine (Looks neat sitting next to my IXO Polikarpov I-16,,,, definitely could use some more Soviet aircraft.).

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Mig-3, my first Easy Model

The MiG-3 was the first Easy Model I bought too, back when they first came out. The one you have is Porkryshkin's. I have mine sitting next to Hobby Master's Porkryshkin P-39.

Their Yak-3 is also very nice.

Re: Mig-3, my first Easy Model

I have that Mig-3 also, plus a lot of others. My Mig came with an ugly glue blob under the wings near the centerline, which I sanded down and repainted. The Yak-3s are nice, except both of the topside colors seem excessively faded. One of the nicer models is the F4F in an Atlantic gray over white scheme. I added walk lines using decals and it now sits happily among my diecasts in a display cabinet. Returning to the Mig-3, Easy Model has a rather nice winterized version you might find appealing.

Re: Mig-3, my first Easy Model

Here's a sample of Easy Models I would recommend strongly, even though I had to make alterations on some of them.

Re: Mig-3, my first Easy Model

Another good looking collection. I think I may just have to get their Rumanian Mig-3 and Bf 109E. I really like the looks of your Rumanian Bf 109.

Re: Mig-3, my first Easy Model

These are nice models. The only bit that bothers me is the fact that the props don't spin. Or is there some trick to getting them to turn that I haven't discovered?

Nope, no spin on the one I have, but thats ok. Probably have to take of the prop and sand down the prop shaft a bit to get it to spin, of course might just end making things worse though.

Re: Mig-3, my first Easy Model

I have a few Easy Models, and I like them a lot. Epapazian, or anyone else who knows for that matter, can you answer a question. I bought the very same Hellcat that you have for $6, as a tailpiece was broken off. Would I use Testers glue to fix that, or what would you recommend? Thanks

Re: Mig-3, my first Easy Model

Bit of Testors used sparingly should do the trick.

Unhappy Re: Mig-3, my first Easy Model

Hi PH-LKK, after collecting some 70 EMs I can say that most of the props move - at least enough to display the prop at your preferred angle. The problem seems to be that EM paint the parts before assembling the model. Therefore whilst the unpainted fit is OK, the paint thickness causes a jam. Frequently the answer is merely to give the prop a firm twist to break the paint bond. I then gently turn it a couple of dozen times, and as the paint wears away the prop often becomes free turning.

Some, such as the Corsairs, and P-47s have no problems and the props rotate freely straight out of the box.

However, on about one in 20 models in the whole range it either won't budge, or comes off in your hand! I'm prepared to take the risk - with radial engines it is generally easy to remove the cowling, fashion a new shaft, and re-assemble the model. On in-line engines more work is required, including drilling a much bigger hole in the front of the fuselage, fashioning a disc-with-new-centre-hole to go in the big hole, making a new shaft and end stop, and then assembling the whole lot like a normal plastic construction kit!

The only model that I couldn't be **rsed to do this with, is the only P-39 Aircobra that I bought. After all the other work required to correct the many faults, and to stop it tail-sitting, I gave up on the propellor.
