Six World War II fighter planes

These six are part of the SkyPilot Collection by New-Ray Toys. They are pre-built and pre-decorated, 1/48 scale, and plastic. They are fairly detailed for the price, but do need to be "doctored" some to look a lot better. I painted the tires, exhaust pipe ends, canopies, gun ports, and other areas to increase the visual presentation. For inexpensive models, they are alright.

If you really enjoy combat aircraft from WWII, then this reference book is a must-have, featuring full color, full page plates of all the significant fighters and bombers of WWII.
From this reference book, World War II Combat Aircraft by Angelucci-Matricardi-Pinto, I have judged the following models to officially be: (If I'm wrong, please let me know what is the correct nomenclature)

Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIV

Messerschmitt Bf.109E

Curtiss P-40K Warhawk

Vought F4U Corsair

Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero

North American P-51D Mustang

Yes P-51D, right on all counts! I have bought this set for my son & for $10 Kiwi each they make great toys. Sturdy too, they have endured many dogfights, mid-air collisions and forced landings.....

Re: Six World War II fighter planes

On another forum I learned that the P-51D Mustand race plane is a mixture of two different aircraft.

One P-51D named "Detroit Miss" was piloted by an American ace that shot down a German Me-262 fighter jet.

The other one was a P-51C, a race plane with NX1204 markings and #46, that competed in the Bendix Throphy race in the late 40s.

The model is NOT a P-51C, but it isn't marked correctly as the ace's P-51D "Detroit Miss" plane either! The ace's plane had bright yellow nose art.

These models are definitely durable. I used to pick them up for my son when he was little. He spent numerous hours zooming them throughout the house.
