Sorry Gort, the Easy Models don't do it for me either. You obviously enjoy them a great deal though, so it doesn't really matter what I think.

Re: Plug for Easy Model 1/72 Warbirds

I like the Easy Model line, as they are great for gap-fillers..

Yes, I agree with you Harry as I have a bunch of these myself and like them overall. Looking forward to the HE-162 and the ME-163 issues.

Re: Plug for Easy Model 1/72 Warbirds

I basically support Gort in this one. The props DO twist, but will not turn when blown on. But I very much like them. They look great, and the price is right. Do the heavier models FEEL good in the hand? Yea, but most of the time they are sitting on the shelf, so I really do not care much. If I want to feel heft, I can try to pick up my wife. Or better yet, one of my diecast aircraft.

ps important note: my wife never reads these!

Re: Plug for Easy Model 1/72 Warbirds

I think thereby lies the clue, you get what you pay for.

If that's the case, then why at $39.99 aren't many of Corgi's fighters closer to perfect (or at least closer to HobbyMaster, Dragon or Gemini standard) in terms of accuracy? At least for $10.00 I can't complain.

I have several EasyModels. The P-40C Flying Tigers version is really good and is comparable to FoV's new P-40. It even has the correct canopy. The F4F Wildcats are excellent from the detailed landing gear (don't even look at the gear on IXO's Wildcat) to the landing windows on the underside (made of clear plastic no less) to the correct size tail on their FM-2 version (sorry Dragon - you screwed up big time here). For less than $10.00, you get a model, that as far as accuracy goes, holds its own against a much higher priced die cast. That's why I haven't replaced my EasyModel VMF-323 F4U-4 Corsair with Corgi's more expensive and somewhat flawed version. Why pay $20.00 more for a less accurate model (other than the fact that one is metal) when I've already got one I like? Not all of these EasyModel offerings are great, but many of them do look good and compare nicely to their more expensive diecast cousins.

Re: Plug for Easy Model 1/72 Warbirds

I agree that the Easy Model line is a good buy and many of these little gems are part of my collection. I plan to buy planes like the MS 406, HE-162, ME-163, F-2A, P-39, D.520, and the Tempest Mk. V as well as various post-war types when they are available. Not that the Easy Models don't have problems. They do. One concerns their finish, which is universally glossy. This can be fixed by careful masking and spraying, but it's a pain. My biggest beef, however, concerns weathering. I like to accentuate panel lines with various types of "washes", but this is virtually impossible on my Easy Models because their panel lines are not indented sufficiently. While this may reflect reality for this scale ( 1:72 ), heavily indented panel lines- even if exaggerated-are a big plus for many of the diecast lines.

Now, that's a good example of an objective assessment of the MRC line (even though I still squirm somewhat at the word "gem" being used in conjunction with MRC, but OK, that's just queep). Thank you Epapazian.

Oh, I forgot, I do have another MRC model I got recently, a CH-34 Chocktaw. Again, not too bad for the money, but a bit too glossy and not in the same league as most of my other models. Also, I must say I was glad I was able to examine it in the store before buying, because some of the ones on the shelf seemed to have greater mould gaps than others, and paint finish was not the most consistent.

Gort, it would have been Easy to say that these models are out of this World, just like yourself. Maybe, just maybe, y ou live a sheltered life there on Melmac.Failing that, a malfunction of your laser beam has made you less insightful. I don't like plastic parts on my Die Cast Models. It is in someway disenfranchising the the entitlement of calling it Die Cast. I have misgivings and certainly resentment toward manufacturers who tout their products as advertised, then deliver less than 100% of the product. IXO being a case in point. Must shut up now. There is no quality in overstatement.

Re: Plug for Easy Model 1/72 Warbirds

There are some smaller parts which can be more finely rendered in plastic.Too attempt to do them in metal would often give a less realistic look to the model..I don't want my "diecast" to have plastic wings and fuselage, of course, but I'm not fanatical about it being 100% metal..How would you like to see a model advertised as 100% diecast metal, then open the box to find the canopies, windows and tires molded in metal as well? They certainly would have been truthful in their advertising - but I doubt we'd appreciate it much.

Plastic, when used in moderation, is not harmful and can actually enhance your model viewing experience.

I like viewing models but only if they are not too thin and dont have plastic enhancements.

Jim, what a sexist pig you are. A typical product on England's public schools, no doubt.
