P51B of Maj. David “Tex” L. Hill

I'm thinking about getting this one to start off my "Flying Tigers" tribute collection. Anybody has this particular diecast and could you give me your thoughts/impressions about it? TY

Re: P51B of Maj. David “Tex” L. Hill

She's a beauty all right. One of the reasons I held off on getting the other EI releases is that you have to assemble them, which to me cuts down on the boxability of the model. This is also why I have avoided most Marushins, only a few come pre built. The EI Tex Hill and Horby RAF Mustangs on the other hand, come fully assembled, and look great out of the box. I only have the Tex Hill, but looking at on display, it really stands out. The guns have gun dust, and this little bit of weathering goes a long way when it comes to realism. My only complaint about the model is that the landing gear is a bit loose and wobbly, and my model's flaps aren't all that even when down. Aside from these minor issues, I'd definately say to get it. She looks great sitting next to Carousel's AVG Tomahawk, a neat AVG-Flying Tigers tribute.

Also, shop around a bit, I paid less than 70 for mine delivered.

I have Tex Hill's Mustang and she is a great one to have in your collection...EI did a great job with this one too..Weathering looks good and these are getting a little hard to find for a good price now days since Mr.Hill passed away last year..
I'll keep my eye out for one for you.

I'm re-painting the pilot in this one.

This is my only EI P-51B and Skysurfer is correct on the landing gear and flaps. I only display mine on the stand.

That would be a great start to a Flying Tiger tribute. I can get you a 1/48 P-40 B/C that Tex Hill had personally commissioned and would sell at our shows. They are not available anywhere online, let me know if you want to see pics.

What brand? Inquiring minds.... (I seem to recall a Speccast version, and I know FM did one... but both of these are sold online...)

Re: P51B of Maj. David “Tex” L. Hill

I also have this one, fly. I love it. I have four EI Mustangs and all have similar issues with gear, flaps, and fit at the wing root and radiator housing unit... so I don't think you will see anything unexpected. One caveat (and I do not know if this is unique to this model or if it has been an issue with other EI Mustangs): I had to send my first Tex Hill back for exchange because it had the wing roundels both placed on the upper wing surfaces... starboard and port. If you look at a picture of the Hill Mustang on the EI web-site, you will see the exact same mistake on that model. So... you may want to have the dealer confirm that the roundels are correctly placed before it ships.

Woa!...thanks for that info, Elmer. I will surely check that one out. TY.
