Thumbs down EI Quality Control Issue on P-51

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone had any QC Issues on the P-51's ???

Just bought the INA Macon Belle, and right out of the box I noticed a paint chip on the top right wing right down to the metal.

Also, there is a scratch on the upper left flap that is also in the metal, as well as a couple other scratches on the underside the left wing.

My question, if I contact OMI, will they send me another wing ?

The rest of the aircraft is fine with no defects or QC issues.....

Your input is appreciated........

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you got the displayed before replace in the box for resale??? I have ALL my EI Mustangs 'blemish-free' and perfect!

Bought the Model from Aikens Airplanes. Have two other models of EI that I bought from Aikens...Shangri-La and Patty-Ann and they have been perfect

OMI may be able to send you a replacement part. I'd try calling or emailing them.

I've had problems with mine too. Check the EI catagory here and you'll find plenty of similar issues.

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

Re: EI Quality Control Issue on P-51

I had some awful QC issues on my INA and Tex Hill. I sent them both to OMI for repairs and fixes. Of the six EI models I own, only two came to me acceptable; the other four had missing parts, glue globs, paint chips, or other deformities. Fortunately, OMI is a good company to work with for fixes.

Re: EI Quality Control Issue on P-51

Only have 2 AC in 1/48 and they are the EI Ding Hao and the Carousel 190D. I prefer the Carousel as it is flawless. The EI P51 has a big gap at the wing root, the paint at the nose is none too even and it is a pain to fit some of the accessories. I couldn't get the landing gear down to stay in place and I snapped one of the bombs trying to get it into the wing. I know that with some work I could correct it but for the cash I expected it to be perfect from the get go.

Taff

Most of the pictures I have seen of the EL P-51s seem to have the wing root gap issue. Just curious if that is the norm or pictures that I have seen are possibly pre production photos.

Its the norm... even on the two Stangs that come preassembled (but lots of models have this same issue). It is also the norm for the radiator housing unit. Also, the gear do not fit evenly, port is a bit forward of starboard.

Nevertheless, they are still beautiful models and impressive on display... as impressive as any model I own, and I will take these fit issues, and the QC issues noted above for the trade-off: impressive detail, scale, display options, all metal parts. No model is perfect, right?

Carousel 1's Fokker Dr.1 and Nieuport are about as perfect as it gets!
