Re: The dope on the Texan

Where do you guys find the space to display your 1/48s??

Hi!

It's not so much a matter of display space-- I have zero display space-- but I collect the 1/48's to own the aircraft I loved as a kid and love now. So they are stored in the basement until I get the inclination to bring a few up to appreciate for awhile.

Sometimes I'll bring up my trusty C-47 during a viewing of Objective: Burma or Private Ryan. Sometimes I'll pull out my Hellcat and keep it on a table top for a few days.

Many 1/48 guys like the scale because we like how a larger plane is represented-- the weight is satisfying, and certain visual cues are more appealing.

Re: The dope on the Texan

I only have a dozen or so; I can mostly fit them on bookshelves. I like to move them around also, I keep some on the entertainment cabinet for a while then move to the computer desk; a few I have boxed. I am getting a new IKEA about 10 miles from my house... oh joy! I can't wait to get a few display cabinets!!!! All of them will go in!

Thumbs down Re: The dope on the Texan

Latest Update:

I just talked to the Eagle Distributor today, the delivery date has again been pushed back to Mid JULY! Eagle is still having trouble with machining some of the smaller parts. For some reason they seem to not be able to get their act together so they can mass produce these birds. I guess the only thing we can do is sit back and continue to wait until the Eagle has Landed. If the Texan is such a challenge, what is going to happen if they have to turn out a real complicated model?

Gbeck,
You would not believe how complicated the Texan really is!!!! From the tubular frame cockpit, complex canopy and flaps that span almost 1/2 of the entire wing AND go under the fuselage.. Compared to the Mustang and the upcoming Thunderbolt, the Texan is extremely complex for such a simple plane..

Re: The dope on the Texan

The delays have nothing to do with the complexity of the model or it's tooling, it's due to issues with the manufacturing plant. Unfortunately, these issue have been largely out of our control. We are looking at different manufacturers to help solve these issues. However, this is a long term solution that will not likely affect projects already in the pipeline.

I've been trying to get new pics taken all week but I've been really busy. I'll see if I can't get this done tonight.

Re: The dope on the Texan

I have got to give EI the benefit of the doubt if they make the T-6 and p-47 as nice as their P-51 line, then the wait is not an issue for me. Now about the P-61 .

HWorth18,

Yes, actually I realize the Texan is a very complex airplane, I think it as the fact that we have all been waiting on the big entry, for somewhere around 9 mo's now, is similiar to waiting on your first child, everyone is anxious to see what it actually looks and feels like. I know from the other models they have produced it will no doubt be a Great model!
