Thumbs up Re: How do you keep, store, or display?

I have two glass cases and two FM display shelves, as well as the odd ball here and there , I of course do not have room for all to be on display, so I rotate em out about every 60 days. I actually have a pretty good time switching them out, The ones on display get dusted and put neatly back into there box, the new one get put out and I get to look them all over, usually done with something cool on the Surround Sound, like some movie theme music, (what a geek huh), but tons of fun really.

Here is a so so pic of one FM shelf unit, this one is kinda empty, later maybe I can post one of the other which is fuller and looks better.

I take them out of the box. I throw away the box I put them on the shelves that I have all around my computer room. I sit and enjoy my planes. I will never sell them.

Couldn't have said it any more eloquently myself...must be the fiddly bits mentality...

FM is Franklin Mint, these displays are made for some sort of
Dragons, but they work really well for 1/72 Scale and smaller, They are Wood, prebuilt and can sit a shelf on or be hung on the wall. The emblem even looks kinda cool on the top.

Unbox them all and on the shelves for display. I save the boxes, for when I am gone, they can be boxed up and disposed of however the kids want to. Mix and match with in flight or not for display.

Re: How do you keep, store, or display?

Check out my stuff in the multimedia gallery under the thread Mustangdriver's Gameroom. My Grandfather is a carpenter and craftsman when it comes to making stuff, so he is aking me four glass display cases. To give you an idea of how big. Each one is going to have 7 glass shelves, with track lighting inside. I don't know all of the measurements, but They are going to be 6'5'' tall and deep enough to hold my 1/72nd scale B-36. They are going to be wide enough to hold 2 of those same models side by side on the same shelf. I also planned it out so that when my entire colection is in place, I will still have one whole case empty for the future. I feel that the cases them selves will be special because my grandfather and I are doing it together, so they become part of the collection as well.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: How do you keep, store, or display?

I've got most of my nearly 90 babies on a couple of shelves I purchased online from a furniture place that has a catalog, too. They have lots of cool stuff - it tends to be cheaper than stuff in a store bacuse a lot of it you assemble yourself. My two big shelves are on the back wall of my computer room. Here's an example of one of my shelves (mine is in the dark cherry) :

This is big enough to hold quite a few 1/72 single or double engine planes. I don't think the shelves are deep enough to hold the big 1/72 planes like B-25s and B-17s. But it works fine for the smaller ones and looks great!

Re: How do you keep, store, or display?

These will be passed down to my children, who will probably sell them for $3.00 each in a garage sale. O well.

So why not take them out and enjoy them while you can...after all you paid more than $3 each for them.
