Re: Prices of dragon armor

Dear everyone,

the first Dragon 251 Hanomag sold from a U.K. ebay site the other day for £23.99+ shipping! I guess that when it appears in the shops here it will sell at about £14(?). It is the same as the kit, so it will be spectacularly detailed!

However, the first FOV 251 Hanomags ( Stuka zu Fuss types i.e. with 6 wolfrahmen rockets in launchers in a frame which covers the vehicle ) appeared in Glasgow, Scotland 2 weeks ago. Price £8.99.

I bought 6 as soon as I saw them! I also pissed-off three wargamers who were standing behind me because I had just bought up all the remaining stock in the city. They threatened to play scrabble with my vital organs before sloping off disappointed.

Some more points re FOV Hanomag :

for an £ 8.99 metal model...it's superb value!

I wanted to unmount one so I got the mounting block off by removing the fixing screw at the rear end and then prising off the mounting block till it snapped off leaving the front end screw sitting proud on the remains of the block! ( not recommended, but needs must as the Devil drives... ).

I then used pliers to grip and unscrew the offending remnants. If collectors wish to unmount their model ( and many wargamers will! ) they should be careful.

The lone figure with the Hanomag is a bit crude, but any modellers who buy the Hanomag would want to crew it with Preiser figures if they wish to add it to a diorama.

The wheel assembly is all mini torsion bars attached to the running wheels which do turn! The front steering wheels also turn, so it looks as if the whole assembly was engineered to work like the real thing! The problem is that the drive and return wheels have dificulty in engaging with the sprocket teeth, so I would not recommend experimenting to see if the whole drive assembly works like the real thing.

Some buyers may be put off by the tracks seeming to be too far askew of the drive or return, but this is corrected with ease ( though it may cause paint flaking from the tracks )

The front wheels have too much vertical play in them

The Wurfrahmen projectiles are a little loose for the rocket housings
The rocket housings don't look 'wooden' enough

The interior is a bit basic, but the seats are passable, though incorrect ( they should be much deeper at the rear of the seat! )

All in all, this is a little gem which will sell like hotcakes.

The possibilities for modelling variants is good. The rocket housings should come off with ease leaving the basic utilty carrier.

Anyone with the Dragon decal set leftovers from building any of the C or D models should be able to customise these FOV Hanomags to suit themselves.

I just bought the Dragon kit of the Stuka zu Fuss and I can assure you that if the assembled Dragon model is built to the same specifications as the kit, it will win hands down against the FOV

However, the FOV is a different animal in being metal, and it is a masterpiece of metal micro engineering.

best wishes,

MoMo

Re: Prices of dragon armor

I'm still waiting to get my hands on one or more of those Forces of Valor German halftracks with rockets. Might just get one off Ebay from another country and have it shipped over.

In Scotland we say " They'll disappear like snaw aff a dyke! "

In scots a 'dyke' is a wall ( yea, like Dutch )........just in case anyone thought.....
