Re: Model Display Capacity

I happen to have a good deal of space, however it's not unlimited. My practice is to keep about 40% of my diecast models in storage. From time to time I dig into this reserve and pull a model out to display, or for a major repaint, followed by being displayed. I also designate models I am less happy with for "retirement" once a better version of the same plane pops up or for other reasons. As a result, I am constantly recycling models in and out of storage as a way to keep the whole aggregation under some measure of control. So far, this approach seems to be working.

Re: Model Display Capacity

I sell off as much of the collection that I can live without to make some room, then set about filling it up again, and then repeat the process over and over and over.... I also cycle my keepers in and out of storage for their turn on the hot ramp.

Re: Model Display Capacity

Does the wife say I've reached capacity? Yes.

Do I think I reached capacity? Not even close, there's still a little space above the heating duct in the back room next to the dryer vent...

Seriously, I think I've reached my modern jet capacity since they are so much bigger than WWII aircraft. I'm saving space for a 1/72 Chinook, either diecast or DIY plastic kit, right now.

Re: Model Display Capacity

I made space for my backyard tool shed to store my undisplayed models.

Re: Model Display Capacity

I am working on my better half for permission to buy another cabinet.

So far my pleas have fallen on stoney ground however the one thing we collectors have is determination to succeed.
I shall win in the end , backs to the wall, man the battlements, we shall never be defeated, maybe, perhaps erm I hope.

Jim, you should get a new better half instead of a new cabinet.

Re: Model Display Capacity

I keep the 1:72 tanks and other AFVs dust-free with a plexiglass display that I bought last year - the ones that don't fit in there stay in their individual display cases on the ordinary bookshelf I have below the display cabinet. I've been thinking about buying another plexiglass display - I don't know if my better half would want more wall space taken up by tanks though.

I have to wait until later this year (read: a few months after the wedding) to get an actual glass display cabinet (Detolf?) for my most highly prized diecast 1:72 planes. For now, approximately 60% of them are in storage and the rest are displayed in open air on ordinary bookshelves. There's still room for clothes in my closet, though, so I still have room for more diecast!

Just as 23enigma61 has trouble parting with any of his diecast, I have gotten to the point where I only buy what I really want and I long ago shipped off the tanks & planes that I grew to loathe.

Do you mean your display cases/shelves are full or your house is full?

If it is the first, buy more display cases, if the latter, move to a bigger house.

Remember, diecast first, everything else second.
