What's with Dragon Armor?!?

Hey, is it just me or has Dragon Armor kinda shriveled up and blown away?

I’ve kept track of their new stuff (what little there is of it), and some of it’s impressive. But compared to the good ol’ days, Dragon’s mighty tsunami dissolved to a feeble trickle. Cyber-Hobby, their first cousin, basically threw in the towel, dumping their signature tins for Dragon’s see-thru display boxes. Sadly, their last issue, a Panther, was anything but rousing.

Anyway, for a once-upon-a-time rabid Dragon Armor collector, I’ve kind of lost it for these guys. I haven’t quit them, but Dragon hasn’t chased my dollar lately, either; so consequently I’ve moved on to more deserving manufacturers—namely Hobby Master.

Does anybody know: Is Dragon Armor on the way out?

I don't think that Dragon will give up preassembled and painted 1.72 kits, but I think that our best days are over. Costs have caught up with us. I too spend my money on HM. but I 'll still get Dragon's new issues when they appear.

Re: What's with Dragon Armor?!?

Yeah, I share your disappointment with Dragon's latest releases. Good thing that HM is churning out some decent models recently and like MoMo, I increasingly find myself putting my money on HM products. However, I am also focussed more on 1:30/1:32/1:35 scale until the 1:72 market picks up again.

Re: What's with Dragon Armor?!?

Their latest Stug III's and Stuh42 have been nice, but nothing else really new announced. It will be interesting to see if the upcoming Dragon Expo offers some idea about new releases. They have a Brumbar, Panzer III, and Panzer IV announced in kit form, so I am keeping me fingers crossed. I am glad that Hobby Master and even MRC(Easy Model) have some good stuff coming out.

Re: What's with Dragon Armor?!?

I loved the Cyber Hobby tanks in the Collector "tins." I guess we won't see them anymore. I would purchase them again. Like everyone else, I am buying mainly HM, and a Dragon once in a while.

Re: What's with Dragon Armor?!?

There was a time when I grabbed everyone of those puppies
Have a complete set of the first year and a half including the cyberhobbies and special versions with some duplicates.
They should have done a tank transporter like FOV
I've bought quite a few of the 1:35 scale
Always wondered why they released the 1:35 tank figures years before the tanks.

One thing that I really dislike is when a company like Dragon and Corgi only makes certain planes available in Hong Kong or England.
I don't care if its a company like the Mule or Modelzone who does the special release.

You and me too, Gambit. Makes obtaining these little goodies that much more difficult. Gotta admit, though, that I took the plunge and purchased the Dragon Armor “Captured Panther” (the 1/72 Panther with the red star) and “Captured Firefly Vc" (with attached treads for additional armor) from English vendors, and I couldn’t be happier.

But, yeah ... I wish we had better access to those. Probably make them a lot less expensive.

its my opinion, that dragon may be going through a strategic policy change, the result of which we have not seen to date, dragon must know they have a real qualitative product range, they will also be aware of the competition,so perhaps they are taking stock of the market, before unleashing their new models.dragon do not need to flood the market as they did in the beginning, they are the market leaders by FAR,and may feel the time is right for some creative thinking on future strategy, new models, creative camo schemes, rejuvenating cyberhobby, new packaging, different scale,or creating new special editions to ehance the range, their options are endless.if pending releases are the first sign of creative thinking in particular 61021,then i feel assured the future is bright,,and our best days are not over,we may just be witnessing the end of the beginning, the next step should be consolidation in order to assure the future of the DRAGON ARMOUR product,as collectors we need DRAGON ARMOUR,the alternative of just FOV and hobbymaster as the only future for collectors is frankly HORRIFYING,these two products are years behind DRAGON ARMOUR in many aspects, build quality for one.As collectors we must be patient,Rome wasnt built in a day, neither will our collections grow and improve in a day,GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT.

Red face Re: What's with Dragon Armor?!?

I did the same thing Gort did and sent away to England for the same Dragon models. Those were among the last Dragon armor I've received. They could step up the releases a little. In the mean time I'm still waiting for HM to go nuts and release a bunch of new WW II stuff.
