1/72?

I know they say 1/72 on the box, but are the Dragon tanks and stuff in scale with all the 1/72 planes? They sure are small if they are.

Sam

Re: 1/72?

Sam,
Yes, they are scale. Yes, the tanks are small, but they sure are purty.

Re: 1/72?

Take it from me: After you've been around armored vehicles, they don't seem to be as large as they might initially appear to be. You just have to get used to being around them. I thought the Abrams was huge when I first got around them, but after two years, they weren't that big.

If you want to be awed by size, take a look at a King Tiger. I'm TDY at Fort Knox right now, and I'm trying to find the time to get into the Patton Museum and take some pics of it. I've been here before and took pics, but I don't have them available right now.

So, I guess after all my ramblings, I have to say that the Dragon armor is scaled accurately.

Re: 1/72?

You could always get the real vehicle's dimensions and divide it by six to get a close idea how close the model is. For example a Pz. Kw. VI Tiger Tank is right around 27' feet in length with a width of 12'. So if you do the math, 1/72nd model should be close to 4.5" long by 2" wide. Not a hundred percent, but it should get you into the ballpark as to how close a model is to 1/72nd scale.

Re: 1/72?

would it be possible for someone to post a pic of a well known tank and plane together so i could see the sizes myself, i havent ever come across 1/72 tanks yet so i'd be interested to see the difference between say and abrams and a tomcat, i say those 2 because i have no idea how bog ww2 tanks were lol

Nice pic. The tanks still look on the small side to me though.

Re: 1/72?

very nice, i would agree that the tanks look small, that makes the men standing next to the f15 look almost the same height as the challenger 2 but compared to this pic the challenger is a bit taller than that, i dunno, maybe my brain just cant comprihend how big jets are and how small tanks are

valkyrie, where did you get those airfield type base things for your displays???

Re: 1/72?

The tanks are further inside the shelf so that could be the reason why they appear relatively smaller. I will take a look later and maybe take another pic for a better comparison. The airfield bases are from Dragon (those that also came with ground crews) and Verlinden.
