| Red Army Sherman up at DMUSA 1/72 Sherman M4A2(76)W Red Army 2nd Tank Army, Berlin 1945 can be seen here. Not really a surprise since it's one of their kits...I wonder what their next Dragon Armor Sherman will be? We may see another Red Army M4A2(76)W, as DML usually makes a couple of each type. (Though so far there's only been one USMC M4A2. I thought they would have previewed a machine from C-Company on Tarawa by now...Afterall, they released two nearly identical Tulips.) Anyway, we have Shermans representing the USA, UK, Germany, Poland, France, and now Russia! You can see a picture of the real deal on this page. (Third B&W picture down.) For all my M4 books, I don't have any that cover Soviet ones in any detail...Can anyone confirm the location of the picture as "Berlin 1945"? I've seen it on one site where it's listed as being in Vienna. (Where the the picture below it on the Russian page linked above was taken...But they clearly have different unit markings.) *Note that DML's tank has straight steel tread type track, rather than the steel chervon type photographed on the actual vehicle. Though, I think it's the first time a Dragon Armor Sherman has come with the "three bar cleat" track. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Red Army Sherman up at DMUSA
When this Sherman showed up on Dragon site, I've checked my book "Lend Lease tanks of the Red Army" in WWII and sure enough there wre two pics of Sherman with similar tactical markings indicating location as Berlin 1945. Ironically, I have quite a few pics of the Soviet Shermans in Vienna and all of them bear a different tactical marking scheme ,i.e just the three digit number. On the other hand, the Dragon Sherman doesn't bear air identification "cross" that I thought all AFVs taking part in Berlin operation had. However, the Russian sources do "confirm" the Dragon model. | Re: Red Army Sherman up at DMUSA My (scant) sources are in agreement with Berkut76, the original tank was in Berlin rather than Vienna. As further support, Dragon suggests this is a 2nd Tank Army vehicle, which is likely correct; the 2nd Tank Army went from Warsaw to Berlin in 1945. Also, thanks for the excellent pics, Berkut! | |||||||||||||
