Re: my first 1/35 tank

Yes the early releases of Minichamps may be a bit toyish but their newer release such as the Centurion and T-72 are really great looking.

Minichamps - Mike's Diecast Tanks and Armour

Scroll down to near bottom to take a look at Minichamps Centurion and T-72.
The site post quite a large picture of them. Simply beautiful. So I say Minichamps is improving themselves.

I decided to post some pics myself from the site

British Centurion

East Germany T-72

Note that both tanks have black tracks instead of the usual silver.
Plus each of the wheels rotate, the threads are metal just like the real ones and the suspensions work. It is really a tank. LOL

I don't think Minichamps are getting better
I,ve got the new Minichamps Centurion tank & don't like the amount of black plastic on the model , it make it look cheap

Hehehe is there really another option for the gun mantlet? It's not possible to use metal there. And it's not plastic but a kind of soft black rubber there for the mantlet so that we may elevate the gun

I just bought the Centurion today like a few hours ago in a local dealer. I like what I'm seeing though. IMO one of the more realistic finish of a Minichamps model. They really do away with silver tracks now . A welcome change. I'm patiently waiting for the T72 to hit the store here.

Perhaps it's a matter of taste Martin.

But do you like your Centurion? How much do you like it? Just curious?
Me I like it I think they got better but I wished they did the Mark 5/2(L7 105mm gun) instead of the Mark 5/1(20 pounder/83mm)

Re: my first 1/35 tank

I'm sure those are nice, but I'm into WWII tanks and they dont have much in stock. How are the minichamps half-tracks?

Hi Dasboot, I didn't mean to hijack your thread pal

I've seen the halftrack out of the box put on display in the shop(the winter camo one) well I didn't like it too much(I don't really know why) and that the halftrack looked like it was fresh out from the factory though the engine cover opens.

I searched the Minichamps site and think this has got to be the best halftrack among the three: 350011170 SD.KFZ. 7 8-TON SEMI TRACK PERSONNEL CARRIER 'HEERES FLAK-ATIL.ABT.314' CHARKOW,RUSSIA-APRIL 1943. It's still listed as available. But I've not seen it in person myself.

I also saw a very nice 1/18 Kuebelwagen in the shop (overall dark green one): KFZ VOLKSWAGEN TYPE 82 KUEBELWAGEN RUSSIA DIV.'GROSSDEUTSCHL.'RECON.UNIT 1941 (100052000). I too recommend this to you.

But it's listed as being sold out at the Minichamps site. I myself don't collect cars even ones used by the military and besides I'm concentrating on modern tanks though I've to admit that not having a working suspension in any Minichamps car models is what actually put me off. I'm intrigued by knowing there's some working mechanics(suspension) in my Minichamps tank models like there's more than meets the eye.

Re: my first 1/35 tank

I have a Minichamps 251/1 HT. While the HT's are nice, I rate them at least a step below the Minichamps heavier AFV's (which includes the Jagdpanther). Given the difference in size and quality, a HT at the same price as a heavier AFV is less value for your money.

I really like the 251 Half-track - the Normandy version is particularly good and displays well with Corgi's 1/32 Forward March Rommel figurine! (Engine cover and rear doors open - smaller than Minichamps tanks but definitely worth the money .)

Re: my first 1/35 tank

While I'm no fan of Dragon's pre-painted Tiger. Pre-built or do it yourself, a model is far better than anyhting I've seen in metal. Especially in 1/35th scale.

Re: my first 1/35 tank

Minichamps tanks just doesnt do it for me. They look like toys and they look like they arent that great quality. (keep in mind, ive only seen pics and not the actual thing) I have the first dragon tiger in 1:35 and i love it! I also have the France King tiger. it looks nice, but at 90.00 bucks i dont consider it good value considering its all plastic.

That is my sentiment exactly. That's why I collect Minichamps instead. IMO they offer good value for my money.
