Re: Jagdpanther is in!

Have any of you seen the second Jagdpanther that's been released? I'm a bit confused though. The second Jagdpanther (DRR 60037) is pictured on Dragon's website without sideskirts, however, I saw it already on sale at Atlantic Toys and it comes with sideskirts.

Re: Jagdpanther is in!

Yep, here's the picture I found in The Flying Mule. Dragon claims this one belongs in the same unit as the previously released vehicle, so it sure has the same unit-specific inaccuracies... However, there's no tactical number or insignia, so it's a generic Jagdpanther that may well represent a vehicle in any Jagdpanther unit. An excellent model anyway.

Thanks chascbv. Can you give us some more details about this tank? Did the 2nd company of this particular battalion in fact not use tactical numbers or even the cross markings? I just find it a bit strange that neither one is present.

Re: Jagdpanther is in!

Hello, DirtyACE. While most of my references will sleep for months in their boxes after I moved house last month, I still have some info regarding your question.

Jagdpanthers had numbers and (usually) crosses in the 2nd and 3rd companies; it seems that 1st company vehicles lacked tactical numbers, though (they were the last company to receive Jagdpanthers).

All vehicles in sPzJgAbt 654 were delivered in plain dark yellow, and then immediately camouflaged with dark brown and dark green (both colours) in the field. Most, if not all, received an additional stowage bin at the rear of the casemate, and all tools and fittings were moved onto the engine deck.

Photographs are difficult to interpret, and numbers and crosses are not visible in many vehicles because of various reasons - dirt and mud, foliage attachments, shadows cast by other objects, and most commonly burnt out paint and zimmerit (many pictures show Jagdpanthers when captured or abandoned after being disabled by Allied fire).

Hope this helps...

Re: Jagdpanther is in!

Thanks chascbv. The extra information certainly helps. I'm just curious as to how Dragon went about deciding that this vehicle shouldn't have a tactical number or a cross.

They based their model on the attached profile from a Polish book, I guess. However, the profile's accuracy is questionable. It is based on the attached photograph (included in the same book), the interpretation of which seems erroneous. No number or cross is seen, and the scheme looks like yellow with dark green mottling; however, a careful review reveals that the dark mottling is in fact the remnants of the original zimmerit coat, which has almost burnt out completely... And with it went the number, cross, and scheme!

I'm actually very happy to see an unmarked Jagdpanther. I have some 1:72 german armor decal sets which I can use to assign it to the unit of my choosing. I really wish Dragon would release an unmarked 1943 T-34 with perhaps a decal set of slogans. I would easily by a platoon of these to mark up on my own. Dragon's 1943 version of the T-34 (hex turret) is a particular bugaboo to me as it was only released in -1- standard green version, with 3-4 versions of it each in German and winter white wash colors.

Re: Jagdpanther is in!

Got both Jagpanthers in today (60037 & 60038). Super detail and I love them both! Wonder why Dragon took so long with these as they are in the 60300's now.

Re: Jagdpanther is in!

I got 60038 the other day, and could not believe it was still there when I awoke the following morning. I can't believe after such a long wait, endless release date teases, even a removal from Dragon USA, I actually own the damn thing! Never thought I'd see the day!
