Cool Re: Loki Self-Propelled Mortar 60cm 1:35 Dragon 61012

It looks like a cool piece. I think it really needs crew figures to put its size in perspective though.

Great suggestion. Troops would be the perfect thing to put this in size perspective. I have the 1/144 models and really like them.

Re: Loki Self-Propelled Mortar 60cm 1:35 Dragon 61012

Well, I just ordered this baby today. We'll soon see what it's all about!

In the end, I thought the subject was too cool to pass up. Maybe I would have prefered it in 1/48 or 1/50, but it'll be all the more impressive in 1/35.

Still wish there was a crew with it, though (even if just 3 or 4 figures)... May have to improvise something.

Re: Loki Self-Propelled Mortar 60cm 1:35 Dragon 61012

Here's a picture of said "Loki" (the actual designation of this 600mm mortar was "Karl"; "Loki" is just the nickname of this individual exemplar), next to Minichamps Panther and Sherman, all 1/35 scale.

It looks very good, but although Dragon did an excellent job with the paint/finish, you still can tell the difference between plastic models such as this and metal as in the Minichamps. But that thing in metal would have likely cost a fortune and weighed a ton.

I do wish I had some crew figures...

those silver tracks really suck on the minichamp tanks. They should really do something about that as I'll never purchase one for that reason alone.

Not sure what the tracks are made of, but it could be possible to give them a black wash to tone them down a bit.

Re: Loki Self-Propelled Mortar 60cm 1:35 Dragon 61012

Picked up my 'Loki' last week from Gerry at Big Guns Collectible from a pre-order from back in August. I LOVE IT! Lots of detail and it is huge! I don't know how many ole Dragon is making of this beauty, but inside the box flap there is a number "2987" that appears to be hand-stamped in black. But doesn't matter to me one or another as I really like it!

Re: Loki Self-Propelled Mortar 60cm 1:35 Dragon 61012

For all those who do not like the grey finish, DRR 61009 Ziu (or should we say Karl II. ?) has been announced for February 2008.

(Picture and following text happily taken from Dragon Models USA website)

Dragon Armor has released a mightily impressive 1/35 scale model of the sixth gun to be built, which was named “Ziu”. This particular gun, “Ziu”, was famously employed in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. The model is fully assembled and pre-painted, and is ready for immediate display…as long as collectors can clear enough space for it!

Sometimes I’m scared that I'll die with stuff in my pockets / and be buried with gold and with silver that I should have spent

Damn! I have the grey "Loki" one but favor this one alittle bit more. Might have to get this "Ziu" just to keep "Loki" company.

Any weapon system used in the Warsaw Uprising would be more aptly described as being 'infamous' rather than 'famous' .
