Dragons latest shenanigans

Cyber Hobby recently announced a limited edition Dragon Armor (DRR 60324) "Super Heavy Tank Maus with Testbed Boblingen", now Dragon announces a regular Dragon Armor (DRR 60323) release "Super Heavy Tank Maus with Testbed at Böblingen 'Ready to Test'". They're both the same Maus with a test bed at Boblingen and both come mounted on some sort of ramp, the only difference is the paint scheme. The Cyber Hobby version has camo stripes while the regular version does not. Maybe it's me, but this all sounds a bit funny.

Re: Dragons latest shenanigans

Yeah. It looks like the exact same model, with a diff. paint scheme. The CH one is going up the ramp, while the regular issue is coming down. I wouldn't mind having a Maus, simply because of its history, but I don't want a CH version.

Re: Dragons latest shenanigans

Actually, Cyber Hobby’s marketing ploy is sound (kinda): They made far too many Maus' and thought a cleaver repackaging ploy would re-energize sales.

Sorry, Hobby ... it ain’t gonna work.

Oh I'm sure the Slobbering German Freaks (SGF) will be quite happy. You couldn't have the test vehicle in plain dark yellow, oh no. One most truely get every scheme for a vehicle that had no impact on WW2 other than stealing resources form real tanks.

The Maus was considered Hitler’s most infernal secret weapon: A gunless, heavy-duty nut crusher designed to squish the manhood out of Germany’s enemies, thus assuring Nazi victory.

Re: Dragons latest shenanigans

fileasfog,
Hey there.

The Maus was another of Hitlers wonder weapons. It was basically a tank desigers dream of the ULTIMATE tank. Two were built, but they were so heavy and cumbersome that they were never made operational. One of them was used as a test bed for various power plants and it was used for a couple of years with a mock up turret. This is the tank Dragon is depicting.

This the Wikipedia article on it.

Anything for a weird life.

Re: Dragons latest shenanigans

As DJ mentioned only two Mice were completed. The dummy turret was to represent the weight of the gun turret while it went through trials. The hole thing was another of Dr.Porsche's dream machines. But armed with a 128mm main gun and 75mm coax, it would definately put the hurting on Allied armor, but only in Germany. It was too big and heavy to cross any known bridge.
One of my books show the test vehicle sunk in the mud about half its hieght. After a decent ramp was dug out to the front, it was able to free itself under its own power. And its reported it could turn on its own axis. Impressive for its size, but still a waste of manpower and resources.
More JadgTigers, JadgPanthers or Panthers would have been a better choice for the time and material. Heck, even the Hetzer recorded a kill on a JS-II. So bigger isn't always better.

After the war, they were scrapped and reused for the US Goverments $5000 toilets and $1000 hammers and so-forth "programs".

And history is repeating itself - Dragon wasting resources on the Maus in favour of Tigers, Panthers and everything else.
